LOCALITY AND DESCRIPTION.
Ninia is situated on the North Island Main Trunk Railway, about seventy-nine miles from Marton, about eleven miles west of Waiouru, and about eight miles east of Ohakune Township. Access is obtained from the Pipiriki-Waiouru coach-road via the Wangaehu Valley Road, the latter being an unformed surveyed road practicable for dray-traffic. Level sections, covered with tussock, rushes, and grass. The soil is pumice grit, with a fair amount of vegetable matter intermixed, overlying volcanic débris on papa formation.
The Waitaki Stream, on which the township is situated, and other streams in the vicinity are visited during the season by a good number of anglers. It is likely that tourists will visit the locality in the summer season, as Mount Ruapehu is in the vicinity. The altitude of the township is about 1,900 ft. above sea-level.
As witness the hand of His Excellency the Governor, this twenty-third day of May, one thousand nine hundred and eleven.
