Appointment of Principal Medical Officer, Wellington District.

HIS Excellency the Governor has been pleased to approve of the appointment of

Major CHARLES MACKIE BEGG, M.D., New Zealand Medical Corps,

as principal Medical Officer to the Wellington Military District, with the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel, and with effect from 1st March, 1911.

Transfer of Territorial Companies.

HIS Excellency the Governor has been pleased to approve, in accordance with section 6 (a) of the Defence Act, 1909, of the transfer of the Heretaunga Mounted Rifles and the Dominion Scouts from the 2nd Regiment, Wellington (Wairarapa) Mounted Rifles to the 3rd Regiment, Wellington (Manawatu) Mounted Rifles, and with effect from 16th March, 1911.

Amalgamation of Regiments.

Wellington, 30th March, 1911.

HIS Excellency the Governor has been pleased to approve, in accordance with section 6 (a) of the Defence Act, 1909, of the amalgamation of the undermentioned regiments of mounted rifles, also of battalions of infantry of the New Zealand Defence Forces, and with effect from the 17th March, 1911 :—

Auckland Military District.

4th Regiment, Auckland Mounted Rifles, to amalgamate with the 2nd Regiment, Auckland Mounted Rifles, and to be designated the 4th (Waikato) Mounted Rifles, with headquarters at Hamilton.

Wellington Military District.

2nd Regiment, Wellington (Wairarapa) Mounted Rifles, to amalgamate with the 4th Regiment, Wellington (East Coast) Mounted Rifles, and to be designated the 9th (Wellington East Coast) Mounted Rifles, with headquarters at Napier.

5th Battalion, Wellington (Centre or Ruahine) Rifles, to amalgamate with the 3rd Battalion, Wellington (East Coast) Rifles, and to be designated the 9th Regiment (Wellington East Coast Rifles), with headquarters at Napier.

Canterbury Military District.

2nd Regiment, North Canterbury Mounted Rifles, to amalgamate with the 1st Regiment, North Canterbury Mounted Rifles, and to be designated the 1st Mounted Rifles (Canterbury Yeomanry Cavalry), with headquarters at Christchurch.

2nd Battalion, Nelson Infantry, to amalgamate with the 1st Battalion, Nelson Infantry, and to be designated the 12th (Nelson) Regiment, with headquarters at Nelson.

Redesignation of Regiments and Battalions.

HIS Excellency the Governor has been pleased to abolish, in accordance with section 6 (a) of the Defence Act, 1909, the existing designations of the undermentioned regiments of mounted rifles and battalions of infantry of the New Zealand Defence Forces, and to approve that such regiments and battalions be redesignated in the manner as set forth in the following schedule, and with effect from 17th March, 1911 :—

Auckland Military District.

1st Regiment, Auckland Mounted Rifles, to be the 3rd (Auckland) Mounted Rifles, with headquarters at Auckland.

2nd Regiment, Auckland Mounted Rifles, to be the 4th (Waikato) Mounted Rifles, with headquarters at Hamilton.

3rd Regiment, Auckland Mounted Rifles, to be the 11th (North Auckland) Mounted Rifles, with headquarters at Kawakawa.

1st Battalion, Auckland Infantry (“Countess of Ranfurly’s Own”), to be the 3rd (Auckland) Regiment (“Countess of Ranfurly’s Own”), with headquarters at Auckland.

2nd Battalion, Auckland (Hauraki) Infantry, to be the 6th (Hauraki) Regiment, with headquarters at Paeroa.

Wellington Military District.

1st Regiment, Wellington (West Coast) Mounted Rifles, to be the 2nd (Wellington West Coast) Mounted Rifles, with headquarters at Wanganui.

3rd Regiment, Wellington (Manawatu) Mounted Rifles, to be the 6th (Manawatu) Mounted Rifles, with headquarters at Palmerston North.

4th Regiment, Wellington (East Coast) Mounted Rifles, to be the 9th (Wellington East Coast) Mounted Rifles, with headquarters at Napier.

1st Battalion, Wellington Rifles, to be the 5th Regiment (Wellington Rifles), with headquarters at Wellington.

2nd Battalion, Wellington (West Coast) Rifles, to be the 7th Regiment (Wellington West Coast Rifles), with headquarters at Wanganui.

3rd Battalion, Wellington (East Coast) Rifles, to be the 9th Regiment (Wellington East Coast Rifles), with headquarters at Napier.

4th Battalion, Wellington (Taranaki) Rifles, to be the 11th Regiment (Taranaki Rifles), with headquarters at Stratford.

Canterbury Military District.

1st Regiment, Canterbury Mounted Rifles, to be the 1st Mounted Rifles (Canterbury Yeomanry Cavalry), with headquarters at Christchurch.

1st Regiment, South Canterbury Mounted Rifles, to be the 8th (South Canterbury) Mounted Rifles, with headquarters at Timaru.

1st Regiment, Nelson Mounted Rifles, to be the 10th (Nelson) Mounted Rifles, with headquarters at Blenheim.

1st North Canterbury Battalion of Infantry to be the 1st (Canterbury) Regiment, with headquarters at Christchurch.

2nd North Canterbury Battalion of Infantry to be the 13th (North Canterbury) Regiment, with headquarters at Rangiora.

South Canterbury Battalion of Infantry to be the 2nd (South Canterbury) Regiment, with headquarters at Timaru.

1st Battalion, Nelson Infantry, to be the 12th (Nelson) Regiment, with headquarters at Nelson.

Otago Military District.

1st Regiment, Otago Mounted Rifles, to be the 5th Mounted Rifles (Otago Hussars), with headquarters at Dunedin.

2nd Regiment, Otago Mounted Rifles, to be the 7th (Southland) Mounted Rifles, with headquarters at Invercargill.

1st Battalion, Otago Rifles, to be the 4th Regiment (Otago Rifles), with headquarters at Dunedin.

2nd Battalion, Otago Rifles, to be the 8th Regiment (Southland Rifles), with headquarters at Invercargill.

3rd Battalion, Otago Rifles, to be the 10th Regiment (North Otago Rifles), with headquarters at Oamaru.

4th Battalion, Otago Rifles, to be the 14th Regiment (South Otago Rifles), with headquarters at Milton.
