THE NEW ZEALAND GAZETTE.
No. 27337.--21st February, 1910.--THE RIDD MILKING-
MACHINE COMPANY, LIMITED, of Queen Street, New Ply-
mouth, New Zealand (assignee of Ambrose Ridd, of Waipuku,
Taranaki, New Zealand, Farmer). An improved milking-
machine pulsator.*
Claims.--(1.) In milking-machine pulsators of the class
described, the combination with a crank-shaft and slide-
valve of a slide-block attached to the slide-valve, and formed
with a slot extending longitudinally therein, and a connecting-
rod extending between the crank-shaft and the slide-block,
and attached to the slide-block by a pin extending through
the slot, substantially as and for the purposes specified.
(2.) A milking-machine pulsator constructed, arranged, and
operating substantially as described and explained, and as
illustrated in the drawings.

Improved apparatus for washing glasses and other utensils.*
Extract from Specification.--According to my invention, a
platform upon which the article to be cleansed is placed is
connected to a nozzle attached to a valve-stem in such manner
that when the platform is depressed, steam or water, or both
of them, is caused to issue through said nozzle to the interior
of the article being cleansed.

No. 27356.--24th February, 1910.--WILLIAM HUMPHREYS-
GREY, of 170 Auburn Road, Hawthorn, Victoria, Australia,
Bootmaker, and ALBERT DUTHOIT, of 31 Queen Street, Mel-
bourne, Victoria aforesaid, Merchant. Improvements in and
relating to boots and shoes.*
Claims.--(1.) The combination with the parts constituting
a boot or shoe of a flexible rubber waist-piece secured to the
insole between and to the heel and forepart or sole thereof,
as described. (2.) The combination with the parts consti-
tuting a boot or shoe of a flexible rubber waist-piece secured
to the insole and moulded in the form of an arch, having for
its abutments the heel and forepart or sole, to each of which
it is attached as set forth. (3.) In a boot or shoe, the com-
bination with the parts constituting the same of a flexible
moulded rubber waist-piece in which is a longitudinal groove
immediately below, and communicating with a series of per-
forations in the insole, and means for regulating the intake
and discharge of air to and from the boot through said groove,
as specified.

COMPANY, of Paterson, in the State of New Jersey, United
States of America, a corporation duly organized under the
laws of said State of New Jersey, carrying on business as
Shoe-machinery Manufacturers, and having a place of business
at 205 Lincoln Street, Boston, Massachusetts, United States
of America (assignees of Alexander Macklop Alexander, of
Beverly, Massachusetts aforesaid, Inventor). Improvements
in or relating to machines for skiving leather and the like.*
Claims.--(1.) A leather-skiving machine having, in combi-
nation, a cylindrical knife, a feed-roll within the knife, and
a concave presser-foot without the knife, having provision
for lateral adjustment to vary the bevel cut by the knife,
substantially as described. . . . (17.) A leather-skiving
machine having, in combination, a cylindrical knife, an arm
movable toward and away from the periphery of the knife,
a slide mounted on the arm for longitudinal movement of the
knife, an adjusting-screw for moving the slide, and a grinding-
disc mounted on the slide, substantially as described.

New Zealand, Flax-mill Proprietor. Improvements in or
relating to flax-strippers.*
Extract from Specification.--Consists in mounting the
drum on a long spindle and in arranging the bearings at a
sufficient distance away from the casing to permit of a limited
lateral amount of spring in the spindle.

classing chart.
Claims.--(1.) In a wool-classing chart, samples of wool
classified and arranged in sections according to breeding
and quality, a series of illustrations depicting methods of
handling fleeces, and explanatory matter referring thereto,
for the purposes specified. (2.) In a wool-classing chart, a
classification-table for use in setting out the various classes
of wool according to the number of the flock and the
various sections with which the wool will class, revolvable
rollers operating a classification-table, a cabinet provided
with sight-apertures for the purpose described. (3.) The
general construction and arrangement of parts forming my
wool-classing chart, substantially as described and as illus-
trated.

No. 27402.--9th March, 1910.--ARTHUR GARDNER, of
Wellington, New Zealand, Permanent-way Superintendent.
Improved means for use in cleaning tramway-tracks.*
Claims.--(1.) Means for the purposes herein indicated,
comprising a truck adapted to be moved along the track,
scoops carried on each side of the truck and resting on the
rails of the track, a tongue projecting forwardly from each
scoop adapted to enter the groove in the corresponding rail,
and an elevator on each side of the truck arranged to work
across the bottom of the corresponding scoop and to deliver
the dirt into the truck, substantially as specified.

No. 27437.--14th March, 1910.--JAMES JOSEPH O'DOHERTY,
of 49 Donald Street, Prahran, Victoria, Australia, Com-
mercial Traveller. Improved brake for road-vehicles.*
Extract from Specification.--According to this invention,
a brake-block or cup l of suitable material, such as metal or
plated wood, is located beneath the inner nave 2 of either
one or both of the vehicle-wheels. The wearing or upper
surface is curved or shaped to correspond with the contour
of the nave as shown, and is provided with a pin or shank 3
extending freely down through a hole or slot 4 formed in
the enlarged head or bearing 5 of a bracket or support 6,
securely attached by bolts 7 or other suitable means to the
axle 8 of the vehicle. Both the shank and the slot in the head
may be correspondingly tapered so as to provide a natural
adjustment as the parts wear.
