No. 28226.—9th August, 1910.—JAMES EDWARD THOMAS, residing on the property of the Simmer Deep, Limited, Germiston, Transvaal, Reduction-works Manager. Improvements relating to feeding-means for tube mills and like grinding-apparatus.

Extract from Specification.—I provide a hopper or bin and chute which serves for holding the pebbles, rock, or other material which is to be introduced into the mill. Arranged in a suitable position relative to the aforesaid chute is a corrugated or fluted roller, on to the top of which the material is delivered by the chute. A portion of the bottom plate of the chute is hinged so that it can move upward should any of the material jam between the roller and the lower edge of the chute. Straps fixed to the back of the chute serve for keeping the hinged portion of the plate in its proper position relative to the roller. The roller is provided with projecting pins which operate to prevent the material jamming in the chute. The hinged plate at the bottom of the chute is provided with slots which permit of the passage through them of the projecting pins.
