NOTICE.—PERCY BRABY, Esquire, of London, England, a Solicitor of the Supreme Court of England, has this day been appointed by His Honour the Chief Justice a Commissioner of the Supreme Court of New Zealand in England, under the 47th section of the Judicature Act, 1908, for the purpose of administering and taking all such oaths, affidavits, and affirmations as in the said section mentioned. SEALED tenders will be received at the Chief Post-office, Invercargill, until noon on Thursday, 6th October, 1910, for the conveyance of mails by coach or motor-car between the undermentioned places for a period of two years from 1st January, 1911, to 31st December, 1912.
POSTAL DISTRICT OF INVERCARGILL.
(1.) Lumsden and Mossburn, twice weekly; The Key and Te Anau (by coach), twice weekly from 1st November to 30th April, weekly from 1st May to 31st October. (Alternative to Nos. 1A and 1B.)
(1A.) Lumsden and Mossburn, twice weekly; The Key and Te Anau (by motor-car and coach), twice weekly from 1st November to 30th April, weekly from 1st May to 31st October. (Alternative to Nos. 1 and 1B.)
(1B.) Lumsden and Mossburn, thrice weekly; The Key and Te Anau (by motor-car and coach), thrice weekly from 1st November to 30th April, weekly from 1st May to 31st October. (Alternative to Nos. 1 and 1A.)
The lowest or any tender will not necessarily be accepted. The attention of intending tenderers is specially directed to the terms and conditions of contract printed on pages 4 and 5 of the tender forms.
The successful tenderer will be required to show that he is in a position to satisfactorily carry out the service. The number of horses to be used in a coach service, and the horse-power and number of motor-cars, to be stated.
The contractor whose tender may be accepted must be prepared to carry out the service according to the time-table framed by the Department.
Forms of tender, with the terms and conditions of contract, may be procured at the Chief Post-office, Invercargill, and at the Post-office, Lumsden.
No tender will be accepted unless on the printed form.

Te Makarini Scholarships, held at Te Aute College, Hawke’s Bay.
THREE scholarships of the yearly value of £35, tenable for two years, are offered for competition. One of these scholarships, to be called the senior scholarship, is open to all Maori boys not over sixteen years of age at the end of the month preceding the date of the examination: the other two scholarships are junior scholarships, one of which is open to all Maori boys under fourteen years of age at the end of the month preceding the date of the examination who have attended a Native school or schools under the control of the Education Department, and whose attendance at school during the previous year is considered by the Inspector of Native Schools to have been satisfactory; the other is open on similar conditions to Maori boys whose attendance at any school other than Te Aute and St. Stephen’s during the previous year has been satisfactory. The scholarships are open to Maori boys on the conditions laid down in the regulations of the Trustees of the Te Makarini Scholarships Fund, as printed in the Appendix to the Native Schools Code, 1908, and in amended regulations thereto, as contained in the Department’s circular memorandum of 25th April, 1910.
