THE following extracts from Notices to Mariners, received from the Board of Trade, London, are published for general information.

AFRICA.
ZITZIKAMMA PT.—The s.s. “Ardova,” drawing about 21 ft., struck on an obstruction or shoal, not indic. by kelp, discoloured water, or breakers, in 34° 12½' S., 24° 28¼" E., about 3 miles S. 33° W. from Zitzikamma Pt. It has been charted as carrying 3 fms., and marked “position approx.” July.
PORT NATAL.—The perm. F. white lt. is re-exh. from the S. breakwater Lt.-h. (29° 52¼' S., 31° 4' E.), and the temp. F. white lt., near the site, has been disc. July.
East Coast.
ZULULAND.—TUGELA RIVER TO CAPE ST. LUCIA.—A number of surveying beacons, pyras., are est. on the coast between Cape St. Lucia (28° 33' S., 32° 24½' E.) and Tugela River. Mariners should note that these beacons are quite distinct from the obelisk beacons recently erected near Port Durnfordsua aids to nav. July.
EASTERN ARCHIPELAGO, ETC.
The following information has been received with regard to Klang Strait:—1. L’s. est. 2. F. white lts., vert., elev., 68 and 59 ft., R. 13 miles, exh. from a gaff on mast with yard 100 ft. high, in 3° N., 101° 20½' E., on Tanjong Sau (Deepwater Pt.). The movements of vessels entering the port are shown from this mast, those entering S. Klang Strait from the S. yardarm, and those entering N. Klang Strait from the N. yardarm. The old flagstaff has been removed. 2. Beacons est.: (a) A white beacon, surm. by a white cheq. disk, 16 ft. high, in 2° 55¼' N., 101° 16¾' E., on first pt., S. Klang Strait. (b) A white beacon surm. by a white cheq. diamond-shape, 16 ft. high, in 2° 58½' N., 101° 19' E., on second pt. 3. Beacon removed: Prev. about 9 cables, S. 43° W. from sig. station at Tanjong Sau. 4. Amended positions of beacons: (a) The white beacon prev. erd. of flat extending from Pulo Salat Mahang has been moved 3¼ cables N. 38° E., and is now in 2° 59¼' N., 101° 19¼' E. (b) The white beacon prev. near entr. to Salat Mahang has been moved about ⅝ cable S. 89° E., and is now in 2° 58¼ N., 101° 18' E. July.
Singapore Main Strait.
An occ. white lt. (U), vis. 1½ secs., ecl. 1½ secs., R. 10 miles, is exh. from a beacon in 1° 11¼' N., 103° 53¼' E., on Batu Beranti; and the white lt.-buoy, moored about 4 cables N.-wrd from Batu Beranti, is to be withdrawn at an early date. July.
Liat Bay Approach.—A coral reef, carrying 4½ fms., with 10 and 11 fms. around, exists in 1° 46½' S., 106° 12¼' E., with Tanjong Lajang, S. 67° W., 4⅜ miles, and Tanjong Raja ern. extr., S. 3° W. July.
A reef carrying 1½ fms., exists near the srt. shore of Liat Bay, with Gunong Puak (1° 54¼' S., 106° 10¼' E.), S. 23° W., 2⅝ miles, and Tanjong Lajang, N. 41° W. A reef carrying 1½ fms. exists wrd. of Palmer Reef, with Gunong Puak, N. 74° W., 11½ miles, and summit of Pulo Panjang, S. 19° W. July.
Kangean Group.
JAVA SEA.—A reef, marked by discoloured water, estimated to carry 5 to 7 fms., is reported to exist in 6° 27¼' S., 116° 16' E., N.-erd. of Kangean Group. “Position approx.” has been charted against it. July.
RHIO STRAIT.—An occ. red lt. (U), vis. 1½ secs., ecl. 1½ secs., R. 10 miles, is exh. from a white frame lt.-h., on the N.-ern. end of Pan Reef, in 1° 9¾' N., 104° 11½' E. Note.—The lt.-buoy which it was proposed to place erd. of Pan Reef will not be est. July.
SURABAYA STRAIT.—A white lt.-buoy and a black lt.-buoy, each exh. a F. white lt., are est. in 6° 53½' S., 112° 44¼' E., on the bar, in connection with dredging in the W. fairway of the strait. July.
PACIFIC OCEAN.
BISMARCK ARCHIP.—Circular Reef (S. end, 3° 20' S., 147° 39' E.) is reported to be about 10 miles S.-erd. from its charted position. A note to the above effect has been placed on the charts. Caution.—It is possible that Circular Reef may be in the position shown on the charts, with a hitherto unknown reef situated S.-erd. of it. Circular Reef should therefore be given a wide berth, pending a survey of the locality. July.
Fiji Islands.
Koro Isl.—ALLDIN PT.—On 1st June, 1910, a gp. fl. white lt., with a gp. of two fls. every 10 secs., elev. 194 ft., R. 17 miles, was to be exh. from a white lt.-h. 76 ft. high, in 17° 23½' S., 179° 23' E., on Alldin Pt.; and Vunaku Pt. lt., F. red (17° 22½' S., 179° 25¾' E.) was to be disc. July.
Hawaiian (Sandwich) Islands.
MAUI.—KAHULUI HARB.—About 16th June, 1910, a F. white lt., elev. 40 ft., is to be exh. at a height of 34 ft., in 20° 54' N., 156° 28¼' W., on the breakwater, about 400 ft. from its present end. July.
SOUTH AMERICA.
RIO DE LA PLATA.—A siren, submarine bell, and lt.-buoy, exh. a fl. white lt. every 5 secs., is est. in 35° 13' S., 55° 47¾' W., off ern. extr. of English Bank. The exact position of this buoy is not known, and “position approx.” has been chartered against it. July.
A lt.-buoy, exh. an. occ. white lt., vis. 5 secs., ecl. 5 secs., is exper. est. in 34° 54½' S., 55° 15¼' W., 1 mile sr&. from Pia Negra, Maldonado approach. July.
LOBOS ISL. LT.-H.—On 15th June a fog siren sounding 1 blast of 3 secs. dura. every 30 secs. was to be est. at the lt.-h. (35° 1¾' S., 54° 53' W.). July.
RIO DE JANIERO HARB.—1. The lt. exh. from the tel. buoy in 22° 54' S., 43° 9¼' W., about 6½ cables N.-erd. from Calnabouco Pt., has been altered from fl. white to fl. red. 2. A wrk. buoy is est. in 22° 52½' S., 43° 9¾' W.; 5 cables N. 43° E. from Feiticeiras bank lt., and ⅞ cable S.-S.-erd. of the wrk. shown on the chart. July.
CAPE ST. THOMÉ LT.—This fl. white lt. every min. (22° 3' S., 41° 3¼' W.) is re-exh. July.
SOUTH ATLANTIC OCEAN.—ANTARCTIC OCEAN.
E. FALKLAND ISL.—CAPE PEMBROKE.—On 1st July, 1910, a sig. station is to be est. in 51° 41¼' S., 57° 42¼' W., at the cape. The precise position of the station is not stated, but it is assumed to be at, or close to, the lt.-h. July.
Notice of the Taking and Laying-off of Roads in Blocks I, Oroua, XIII, Onga, and IV and VII, Rangitoto Survey Districts, Oroua County.
NOTICE is hereby given, by direction of His Excellency the Governor of the Dominion of New Zealand, under the authority of section 93 of the Public Works Act, 1908, that the roads described in the Schedule hereto were duly taken and laid off through the land specified in the said Schedule, under the authority of the Governor of the said Dominion, by Warrant dated the 23rd day of December, 1905.
