No. 28098.—11th October, 1909.—NICHOLAS BARNEWELL, of 174 Mile, Queensland North Railway, via Townsville, Queensland, Australia, Railway Employee. Improved alarm signals for railways.
[NOTE.—This is an application under the International and Inter-colonial Arrangements, the date given being the official date of the application in the Commonwealth of Australia.]
Claims.—(1.) Improved alarm signals for railways, comprising operating mechanism adapted to be actuated by passing vehicles, a main connecting-cord fastened to said operating mechanism and led along the permanent-way and kept in tension, and spring bells connected by branch cords to said main cord, substantially as described and explained. (2.) Improved alarm signals for railways comprising operating mechanisms at two positions on the permanent-way, adapted to be actuated by passing vehicles, and a main connecting-cord between said mechanisms, a series of spring bells on each side of the track, all connected to the main cord by branch cords so arranged that motion of one mechanism will actuate one series of bells and motion of the other mechanism will actuate the other series of bells, substantially as described and explained.

Copies of drawings may be obtained at the uniform price of 1s. each. In exceptional cases this price may be increased at the discretion of the Office.
