[No. 69

Claims.—(1.) In a device for strengthening weak electrical impulses, especially adapted for use in wireless telegraphy, and in which the impulses are allowed to act upon a relay, the use of an armature in the strengthening relay which is only very slightly damped acoustically and is fixed to one of the electrodes of a granular contact device, substantially as described. (2.) A device of the type described, in which the armature forms a vibrating system which can be tuned to a definite frequency, the armature being rigidly connected with an electrode of the granular contact device, substantially as described. (3.) A device of the type described, in which the vibrating armature system is held at two opposite points and is free to vibrate after the manner of a stretched string at a frequency which can be adjusted, the vibrating system working in conjunction with a granular contact, substantially as described. (4.) A device of the type described, in which a succession of circuits is provided, containing granular contacts and strengthening relays having armatures which are only very slightly damped acoustically, the whole arrangement serving for strengthening the weak impulses to any required extent, substantially as described.

[NOTE.—Here follow twenty-three other claims.]

(Specification, £1 2s. 6d.)

No. 27962.—24th June, 1910.—WILLIAM CHOWEN, of Okato, Taranaki, New Zealand, Farmer. An improved leg-fastener for cows and other animals.

Claims.—(1.) Means for the purpose indicated comprising a hook fixed to one end of a suitable fastener, opposing cylinders through which the fastener passes, and a coil spring within the cylinders to project a cylinder against the hook when in position in order to give the necessary tightness to the loop, substantially as set forth. (2.) In means for the purpose indicated, opposing cylinders one of which is secured to the fastener, a coil spring within the cylinders to normally project the free cylinder outward, and means to limit the outward travel of the said cylinder, substantially as set forth. (3.) The improved leg-fastener for cows and other animals constructed, combined, arranged, and operating substantially as specified and illustrated in the drawings.

(Specification, 2s. 6d.)

No. 27970.—23rd June, 1910.—CHARLES HARRISON-SMITH, of Auckland, New Zealand, Agent. A coast-line fog and alarm signal apparatus and air-compressor.

Extract from Specification.—The alarm is produced by projecting a cylinder into the tide, providing for the admission of air into the cylinder, the passing of the air from the cylinder to a reservoir fixed on the land, and a whistle to give the alarm. Where the apparatus is used for compressing air the whistle or alarm-signal is dispensed with.

[NOTE.—The above extract from the specification is inserted in place of the claims.]

(Specification, 3s.)

No. 27974.—25th June, 1910.—JULIA ROSS, of Matai-moana, Waverley, New Zealand. Improved means for use in transferring clothes from washing-boilers to other receptacles.

Claims.—(1.) In means for the purpose described, a metal frame adapted to fit around the inside of the boiler-top and provided with supports extending radially from its upper edge, in combination with a net secured to such frame and provided with a draw-string for closing and opening its bottom, substantially as specified. (2.) The improved means for use in transferring clothes from washing-boilers to other receptacles, constructed and operated substantially as described and explained, and as illustrated in the drawings.

(Specification, 2s. 6d.)

No. 27990.—28th June, 1910.—JACOB HENRICHSEN, of 21 Loengangsstraede, Copenhagen, Merchant, and CARL JOHANNES HEMMINGSEN, of 13 Kingsgade, Copenhagen, Machine-manufacturer, both of Denmark. Improvements in milking-appliances.

Claim.—An appliance for milking by suction, having an aperture arranged in or at the side of an elastic closing-member for the sucking-cup’s outlet, characterized thereby that the relative proportions between the tension of the closing-member, the size of the outlet of the sucking-cup, and the size of the said aperture are arranged so that the outlet is open at the start, and is during the milking, through a pulsating action of the closing-member, closed or opened automatically by decreased milk-flow, or when this flow altogether ceases.

(Specification, 3s. 6d.)

No. 27991.—28th June, 1910.—FRANS JOSEF JOHANSSON and EMIL ALBERT OLSON GOTHE, of 5 Kronobergsgatan and 8 Hagagatan respectively, Stockholm, Sweden, Mechanics. Improvements in or relating to milking-machines.

Extract from Specification.—The invention consists chiefly in the clamping-members being operated by a reciprocating part guided in such manner as to swing vertically when the clamping-member is pressed against the teat, so that the clamping-member, after having shut off a quantity of milk in the teat, will press out the said quantity of milk and at the same time exert a slightly pulling action on the teat, by which the milking-operation is facilitated. The invention further comprises means for automatically adjusting the clamping-members both vertically and laterally during milking.

[NOTE.—The above extract from the specification is inserted in place of the claims.]

(Specification, 4s. 6d.)

No. 27996.—29th June, 1910.—DONALD GILLANDERS, of Waipukurau, Hawke’s Bay, Drover. An improved specific for the treatment of tape-worm in sheep and other animals.

Extract from Specification.—The mixture consists in a composition of oatmeal, tar, and cream of tartar, mixed together to form a paste, and adapted to be diluted with water if required in liquid form.

[NOTE.—The above extract from the specification is inserted in place of the claims.]
