PATENT OFFICE SUPPLEMENT.
A SPECIAL Supplement to the New Zealand Gazette
is now published fortnightly, containing all notices
concerning patents and trade-marks required by law to
be gazetted; also, particulars of lapsed applications for
patents, expired letters patent, and other information useful
to inventors, manufacturers, and others. The Supplement
will be issued free to subscribers to the Gazette, and
to others on payment of a subscription of eleven shillings
per annum, including postage, payable in advance to the
Government Printer.
THE NEW ZEALAND GAZETTE.
SUBSCRIPTIONS. - The subscription is at the rate
of 33s. per annum, including postage, PAYABLE IN
ADVANCE. A less period than three months cannot be sub-
scribed for.
Single copies of the Gazette, 6d. each.
Advertisements are charged at the rate of 6d. per line
for the first insertion, and 3d. per line for the second and
any subsequent insertion.
Statements under the Mining Act are uniformly charged
23s.
All advertisements should be written on one side of the
paper, and signatures, &c., should be written in a legible
hand.
The number of insertions required must be written across
the face of the advertisement.
The New Zealand Gazette is published on Thursday
evening in each week, and notices for insertion must be
received by the Government Printer before 3 o'clock of the
day preceding publication.
Communications should be addressed to the Government
Printer, Wellington, to whom post-office money-orders
should be made payable. Cheques should be crossed
"Public a/c," and exchange added.
Postage or duty stamps cannot be received in payment
from any place at which postal notes or post-office orders
are issued.
Prepayment may be demanded in any case. In order to
prevent delay in publication, a sufficient remittance should
accompany every advertisement. Any surplus will be re-
turned with receipted account.

BANKRUPTCY NOTICES.
THE public are informed that extracts from the New
Zealand Gazette, containing all Bankruptcy Notices
that appear in each issue, are published weekly, and will
be sent post-free to any address on payment of a subscrip-
tion of 10s. per annum. Single copies, 3d. each.

SCHOOL FOR DEAF-MUTES, SUMNER, NEAR
CHRISTCHURCH.
Under the Control and Supervision of the Education
Department.

FOR Deaf Children of sound intellect. The pupils are
taught to use and understand ordinary speech. The
full charge for board and education is Β£40 a year, but less
is accepted from parents who cannot afford to pay this
amount. In case of necessity admission is free.
By the Education Act, the education of deaf children
between the ages of 7 and 16 is made compulsory. A child
is, as a rule, best fitted to begin the school course at about
the age of 6, but advice should be obtained as soon as any
sign of deafness is observed.
The following classes of deaf children are admitted:-
-
Children born deaf, or who have lost their hearing
before learning to speak. -
Children who can hear a little, but are too deaf to
be taught in an ordinary school. -
Children who have lost their hearing after having
learned to speak.
Parents and other persons acquainted with such cases
above the age of 4 are invited to communicate with the
