Makara Riding.
Under the Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1908, and its Amendments.
I HEREBY give notice that at a poll of the ratepayers of the Makara Riding of the Makara County, taken on the 8th day of June, 1910, on a proposal to raise a special loan of £6,000 for the purpose of constructing a new road over the Makara Hill, as shown on the plan thereof prepared by Mr. A. P. Mason, licensed surveyor, 33 votes were cast in favour of the proposal, and 41 votes were cast against it.
The proposal was therefore lost.

GREYMOUTH HARBOUR BOARD.—NIGHT SIGNALLING BY THE MORSE SYSTEM.

THE Greymouth Harbour Board have notified that the Morse system of night signalling has been installed at the signal-station at Greymouth, on the South Breakwater, and vessels may now communicate with the shore at night-time.

Varied Notice fixing Closing-hours of certain Shops in the Borough of Picton under the Shops and Offices Act.
WHEREAS a requisition in writing, signed by a majority of the occupiers of all the shops in the following trades in the Borough of Picton, has been forwarded to me, desiring that all such shops in the borough shall be closed on Saturdays at the hour of 9 p.m., instead of 10 p.m. : And whereas the Picton Borough Council has certified that the signatures to such requisition represent a majority of the occupiers of all the shops mentioned within the borough :
Now, therefore, I, John Andrew Millar, Minister of Labour, in pursuance of section 25 of the Shops and Offices Act, 1908, do hereby direct that, from and after the 27th day of June, 1910, all shops in the following trades in the Borough of Picton shall be closed in accordance with such requisition :—
Trades.—Drapers, storekeepers, boot-merchants, crockery-merchants, ironmongers, and saddlers.
The notice gazetted the 10th November, 1905, fixing the closing-hours of all such shops in the borough is hereby varied accordingly.

NOTICE is hereby given, by direction of His Excellency the Administrator of the Government of the Dominion of New Zealand, under the authority of section 93 of the Public Works Act, 1908, that the road described in the Schedule hereto was, on the 31st day of March, 1908, duly taken and laid off through the land specified in the said Schedule, under the authority of the Governor of the said Dominion, by Warrant dated the 6th day of March, 1908.
