The total births in the above boroughs amounted to 602, against 557 in February—an increase of 45. The deaths in March were 235—an increase of 2 on the number in February. Of the total deaths, males contributed 119, females 116. Seventy-seven of the deaths were of children under five years of age, being 32·77 per cent. of the whole number; 66 of these were under one year of age.

There were fifty-four deaths of persons of 65 years and upwards: Twelve men, 65 (two), 66, 67 (two), 69, 70, 72, 74 (two), 80, 89, and eleven women, 70, 71, 72 (two), 75 (two), 76 (two), 79, 84 (two), died at Auckland; six men, 66 (two), 70, 72, 73 (two), and five women, 69, 74, 79 (two), 92, at Wellington; seven men, 65, 70, 74, 75, 78, 81, 85, and three women, 68, 88 (two), at Christchurch; and five men, 66, 69, 70, 76, 83, and five women, 67, 71, 80, 88, 89, at Dunedin.
