No. 27350.—21st February, 1910.—WILFRID SMITH, of Lower Norton, Horsham, Victoria, Australia, Mechanic. Method or system of and means for preventing the wooden felloes, spokes, and hubs of vehicle-wheels from shrinking or expanding, and for preserving them from decay.

Extract from Specification.—I employ a suitable fluid, which I circulate through an approved system of grooves, passages, or channels to those parts of the said woodwork which most require revivification from time to time.

No. 27351.—24th February, 1910.—JONATHAN RANKIN HENDERSON, of 37 Thomas Street, North Sydney, New South Wales, Australia, Inventor. Improved method of preserving fresh fish.


Claim.—In the treatment of fresh fish for the purpose of preventing decomposition, the use of charcoal as a deodoriser in the manner described in the specification, the use of sulphurous acid and bay salt added to sea-water in the portion named in the specification; also the use of a filter-press packed with asbestos, coke, and infusorial earth or other filtering medium, connected with a refrigerating system, and operated in the manner and for the purpose set forth in the specification herewith.

No. 27353.—24th February, 1910.—PETER HOGG FERGUSON, of Sydney, New South Wales, Australia, Merchant. An improved wire-strainer.


Claims.—(1.) A wire-strainer characterized by having a straining-roller adapted to receive one end of the wire to be strained mounted upon a swinging-plate adapted to swing around the other wire-end, substantially as specified. (2.) A wire-strainer consisting of a frame across which the two wire-ends are adapted to be passed from opposite directions, a plate articulated to one end of the frame and adapted to rotate in a plane at right angles to the wires, and a straining-roller carried in bearings upon such plate, substantially as specified. (3.) A wire-strainer consisting of a frame having a vertical member at one end formed with a curved and forked top end and a vertical member at the other end, a plate articulated upon the inside of this latter member and adapted to rotate transversely to the frame, bearings formed in the lower edge of such plate, and a straining-roller fitted in such bearings, substantially as specified.

Extract from Specification.—We propose to attach the transverse rails to the sides of the frame of the chair in such a way that they will be easily removable by hand. After so separating the parts and the main portion of the frame being closed, the canvas may be rolled up with the crosspieces and the whole strapped to the legs of the device.

No. 27358.—24th February, 1910.—ROBERT MASSEY, of 66 Merlin Street, North Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. Improved means for attaching collars to shirts, blouses, and the like.


Claims.—(1.) Improved means for attaching a collar to a shirt or blouse, consisting of a tongue or tab of linen or other textile material attached to the collar-band of the shirt and designed to fold downwards over the lower edge of the collar after having passed through a longitudinal slit provided therein for the purpose of receiving it, substantially as described and illustrated. (2.) In improved means for attaching a collar to a shirt or blouse, a tongue such as 3 secured to the collar-band of the shirt, in combination with a collar provided with a horizontal slit such as 4 for the purpose set forth, and substantially as described and illustrated.

No. 27368.—1st March, 1910.—CLEMENT VACHER, of Kelowna, British Columbia, Canada, Farmer. Improvements in sprinkler-nozzles.


Claim.—(1.) A nozzle of the character described comprising a nozzle section, vanes movably mounted within said section and adapted to vary the diameter of the passage there-through, means for operating said vanes, a jet-tube, and means for removably securing said jet-tube within the nozzle section.

No. 27369.—1st March, 1910.—CLEMENT VACHER, of Kelowna, British Columbia, Canada, Farmer. Improved sprinkler-nozzle.


Claim.—(1.) A nozzle of the character described comprising an outer cap provided with a wedge-like opening consisting of two branches, one extending longitudinally of the cap, and the other communicating therewith and extending laterally through the end of the cap; an inner cap revolvably mounted within the outer cap and provided with an opening consisting of two branches, one extending longitudinally of the cap, and the other communicating therewith and extending laterally through the end of the cap; and means for adjusting said caps so that the openings through the caps will register, and means for securing the caps in adjusted positions.

Improvements in or relating to cots for attachment to beds.


Claims.—(1.) In improvements in or relating to cots for attachment to beds, a sliding foundation-frame, a cot outer side and cot-ends hinged to said foundation-frame and folding thereupon, means attached to the side of the bed for holding said foundation-frame in position with the bed whether beneath or at the side thereof, substantially as set forth. (2.) In improvements in or relating to cots for attachment to beds, a sliding foundation-frame having guide-bars, means for holding said frame to the bed by said guide-bars, a cot outer side and cot-ends hinged to said foundation-frame and folding thereupon, means for retaining said side and ends in a vertical position, substantially as set forth.

No. 27378.—2nd March, 1910.—ROBERT WILSON HILL, of Verner Street, South Geelong, Victoria, Australia, Engineer. An improved adjustable mounting for the knives of chaff-cutters and the like.


Claims.—(1.) An improved adjustable mounting for the knives of chaff-cutters and the like consisting in attaching the knives to removable brackets pivoted to the arms of the knife-wheel, and providing adjustable bolts or screws on said arms for adjusting said brackets. (2.) An improved adjustable mounting for the knives of chaff-cutters and the like consisting in attaching the knife to a bracket pivotally and removably mounted on an arm of the knife-wheel and adapted to be turned and secured in position by means of adjustable bolts or screws.

Extract from Specification.—I form a receptacle of convenient shape preferably with a spout, and a hinged overhanging lid having its rim so formed that while free ventilation is secured I obtain adequate protection from dust, &c. The bottom is placed slightly up, and below, perforations allow air to pass, or water, when heating, pasteurising, or sterilising the contents.
