THE Deaf Children of sound intellect. The pupils are
maintained and educated entirely free, except that
full charge for board and education is £40 a year, but less
is charged when parents are unable to pay or pay the
amount. In case of necessity admission is free.
By the Education Act, all children of deaf but less
than six years of age, and it is a matter of the first moment,
as a rule, be best fitted to begin the school course at about
five years of age, if no medical contraindication and no
sign of deafness is observed.
The following classes of deaf children are admitted :—

  1. Children born deaf, or who have lost their hearing
    before acquiring speech.
  2. Children who can hear a little, but are too deaf to
    be taught in an ordinary school.
  3. Children who have lost their hearing after having
    learned to speak.
    Parents and other persons requiring more information
    above the age of 5 are invited to communicate with the
    Director, as above.

    PATENT OFFICE SUPPLEMENT.
    A SPECIAL Supplement to the New Zealand Gazette
    of 1st December, 1898, containing abridgments of
    specifications, patents, and trade-marks, required by law to
    be gazetted ; also, particulars of lapsed applications for
    patents, and all other matter and thing appertaining to
    all to inventors, manufacturers, and others. The Supple-
    ment will be forwarded by post free on receipt of 3d., or
    to others on payment of a subscription of eleven shillings
    per annum, including postage, payable in advance to the
    Government Printer.
