(2.) A phonograph sound-record of hard, tough material, whose record-groove is substantially circular in cross-section, the maximum depth of which is greater than one-tenth of its width, and the pitch of which is approximately eighty threads per centimeter. (3.) A phonograph reproducer having a stylus adapted to track the record-groove of the phonograph-record of claims 1 and 2, said stylus being formed with a surface curved upon different radii, and supported in such a way that the radius of curvature in a plane parallel to the direction of said groove is greater than the radius of curvature in a plane at right angles thereto. (4.) A phonograph reproducer-stylus having a bearing-surface curved in one plane on a radius sufficiently small to enable it to engage the record-groove of the phonograph-record of claims 1 and 2, and curved on a substantially greater radius in a plane at right angles to said first plane. (5.) A phonograph reproducer substantially as described and shown in Figs. 10, 11, and 12 of the drawings. (6.) A phonograph having a feed-screw coaxial with the mandrel, and interchangeable means which adapt it to operate upon phonograph-records having record-grooves of different pitch. (7.) A phonograph having a feed-screw coaxial with the mandrel, and interchangeable means which adapt it to operate upon phonograph-records having respectively forty and eighty threads per centimeter. (8.) A phonograph having interchangeable means which adapt it to operate upon phonograph-records having respectively forty and eighty threads per centimeter, and having an indicator for designating which of said records the phonograph is in position for operating upon. (9.) A phonograph having a rotating hollow feed-screw shaft, a rotary shaft within said screw shaft, means for locking said shafts together so as to rotate at the same speed, and interchangeable means for gearing said shafts together so as to rotate at different speeds. (10.) A phonograph having a rotating hollow feed-screw shaft, a rotary shaft within said screw shaft, means for locking said shafts together so as to rotate at the same speed, and interchangeable means comprising planetary gearing for gearing said shafts together so as to rotate at different speeds. (11.) A phonograph substantially as described and shown in Figs. 13, 14, 15, and 16 of the drawings. (12.) A phonograph comprising a mandrel and a feed-screw shaft rotatable on different axes, and interchangeable means for gearing said mandrel and shaft together so that the relative speeds of said members will be suitable for operating upon records of different pitch. (13.) A phonograph substantially as described and shown in Figs. 17 and 18 of the drawings. (14.) A phonograph substantially as described and shown in Figs. 19, 20, and 21 of the drawings.
