The total births in the above boroughs amounted to 640, against 592 in June—an increase of 48. The deaths in July were 255—an increase of 33 on the number in June. Of the total deaths, males contributed 130, females 125. Fifty-three of the deaths were of children under five years of age, being 20·78 per cent. of the whole number; 46 of these were under one year of age.

There were seventy-four deaths of persons of 65 years and upwards : Nine men, 65, 70 (three), 73, 74, 77, 83 (two), and eight women, 66, 68, 70, 71, 77, 80 (two), 82, died at Auckland; ten men, 65, 66 (two), 70 (two), 72, 75, 79, 83, 88, and eight women, 65, 72, 73, 74 (two), 77, 79, 84, at Wellington; nine men, 65, 68, 69, 70 (two), 75, 76 (two), 78, and ten women, 65, 70 (three), 72 (two), 75, 82, 83, 84, at Christchurch; and thirteen men, 67, 70 (two), 71, 74 (two), 76, 78, 83 (three), 87, 89, and seven women, 70, 73, 75, 77 (two), 78, 79, at Dunedin.
