Complete Specifications filed after Provisionals.
No. 24704.-21st July, 1908.-CHARLES WESLEY NANCE,
of No. 348 Oxford Street, Paddington, Sydney, New South
Wales, Australia, Provision merchant. Improvements re-
lating to means employed in the preservation and storage
of perishable comestibles.

Extract from Specification.-The means employed consist
of, first, the packing of the comestibles in portable boxes
composed of light waterproof material, such as oiled paper,
the box in its formation being rendered gasproof, and having
a lid to be sealed. The said boxes are fitted into and pro-
tected by a stouter box, a wire framing surrounding the lighter
box for placing it in position or removing it. It is immaterial
whether the outer casing be waterproof. Second, the open
boxes with their contents are placed in suitable chambers
upon grills or supports, constructed to allow each box to
occupy an independent position so that the surrounding
passages will allow free movement of the gaseous preserva-
tive subsequently used. Third, the association of the said
chambers, which in their construction are adapted to be
exhausted with a suitable appliance, such, for instance,
as that described in the present applicant's application
No. 24054, dated 26th February, 1908, and entitled "An
appliance to be rendered operative by an impellent liquid for
the extraction of air, vapour, gases, and suchlike," and the
complete exhaustion of the air and gases contained in both
the chambers and their contents. Fourth, the charging of
the chambers and the boxes with carbonic-acid gas supplied
from a separate container, and wholly enveloping the co-
mestibles therewith. Fifth, the retention of the gas within
the inner boxes by the use of sealing-lids which may be simul-
taneously fastened by an adhesive when the lids of the outer
boxes are secured.

No. 24749.-28th July, 1908.-GEORGE RUSSELL FELLOWS,
of Princes Street, Onehunga, Auckland, New Zealand,
Furnace-builder and Bricklayer. Improved gas-producer
and grate.
Extract from Specification.-The invention consists of a
form of grate-bar similar to four angle-irons welded together
at the back, and forming wheels which, being geared together
in couples, are made to revolve when required towards each
other, which grip and abstract the dead residue and leave
intact the red zone of fire above, thus preventing the inrush
of cold air. The grate-bars are made lowest at the back,
thus giving a fall for the water to run in their upper grooves
across the entire grate immediately below the red zone of
fire, the quantity being regulated to requirements, which on
rising is decomposed, forming water-gas.
