The total births in the above boroughs amounted to 592, against 686 in May—a decrease of 94. The deaths in June were 222—an increase of 14 on the number in May. Of the total deaths, males contributed 121, females 101. Fifty of the deaths were of children under five years of age, being 22·52 per cent. of the whole number; 41 of these were under one year of age.

There were sixty-six deaths of persons of 65 years and upwards: Ten men, 65, 67 (three), 68, 70, 77, 78 (three), and eight women, 74, 76, 77, 78, 80, 82, 83, 93, died at Auckland; eight men, 69, 70, 72, 75, 76, 78, 79, 82, and one woman, 74, at Wellington; six men, 65, 71, 74, 81, 85, 95, and fourteen women, 65, 69, 70 (two), 72, 73 (two), 75, 76 (two), 83, 84, 88 (two), at Christchurch; and eleven men, 65 (two), 67, 68, 70, 71, 74, 75, 81, 84 (two), and eight women, 65 (three), 70, 72, 77, 85 (two), at Dunedin.
