Descriptions of Runs.
Runs 204E, 204B, 204D, and 204F adjoin each other, No. 204B being close to Hamilton South Post-office. No. 204B is much better than the others, the country being warm, the aspect good, and the feed sweet. The other runs are summer country on which the altitude rises to 4,000 ft.
Run 205H is situated about three miles west of Hyde. The country is poor and covered with snow-grass and spear-grass. Altitude from 3,000 ft. to 4,000 ft.
Run 306 is distant about half a mile from Wedderburn, close to the Otago Central Railway, and within easy distance of a school. It has a frontage to a main road. The average altitude is about 2,500 ft., the elevation varying from 1,850 ft. to 3,250 ft. The aspect is southerly, and this, taken with the altitude, makes the country cold.
Runs 171D, 171C and 171G (grouped) adjoin, and are situated from twelve to fifteen miles from Waikouaiti Railway-station. The highest point is 2,400 ft. above sea-level. The vegetation consists of coarse grass, silver-tussock, and snow-tussock.
Run 129 is situated about nine miles south-west of Warepa Railway-station, in a direct line. It is covered with fern, scrub, and coarse tussock.
Runs 121A and 121K (grouped) are situated about four miles from Middlemarch Railway-station. This country is somewhat cold and sour, the vegetation being coarse grass, silver-tussock, and snow-tussock.
Runs 96, 97, and 98 (grouped) face the Makarora River. The country is exceedingly rough and difficult to work. The greater part of the upper run is covered with bush and practically valueless for grazing, with the exception of the small flats near the homestead. The lower front run is only of value above the fern-level of about 2,000 ft., and from this upwards the tussock seems fair. The low land is comparatively poor.
Runs 95 and 430A (grouped) comprise a fairly good flat along the western side of the Hunter River, with a large extent of exceedingly rough country behind.
Section 37, Block VI, Table Hill District, fronts the Tokomairiro River, and is distant about six miles from Milburn Railway-station by formed road.
Section 16, Block VII, Table Hill District, is situated about five miles from Round Hill Railway-station, on the branch line to Lawrence.
Run 5 of C is situated about thirty-four miles from Kurow Railway-station. It extends in a narrow belt from near the confluence of the Ahuriri with the Waitaki River to about one mile above Totara Creek. It includes some islands in the Ahuriri River. The main road skirts the south-west side of the run. The country is low-lying at an altitude from 1,000 ft. to 1,200 ft. above sea-level.
