No. 25286.—2nd December, 1908.—WILLIAM JAMES GREEN,
of 36 Lower Marsh, London, England, Chemist. Improvements in branding-machines.

Claims.—(1.) In a branding-machine for marking boxes,
casks, or the like, the combination with a vertically reciprocating spindle mounted in an adjustable bracket on a pillar standard, and normally held inoperative by means of a spring, of a branding-head flexibly mounted thereon adapted to receive a removable branding-plate, and means for heating said brand, substantially as described, and illustrated in the drawings.

No. 25289.—28th November, [1908.—HENRY EDWARD DILKE MERRY, of Cuddingwarra, Western Australia, Australia, Mine-manager. An improvement relating to the feed-screw of rock-drills.

Extract from Specification.—Providing means, in addition to the ordinary crank-handle at the rear, for feeding the drill at the chuck or front end, so that a single operator can control the whole of the machine from the position at the operating end thereof.

No. 25362.—21st December, 1908.—REGINALD SYDNEY NEWCOMB, of Auckland, New Zealand, Manufacturer. Improvements in closets or privies.

Claims.—(1.) In closets or privies, the combination with a receiving-chamber or passage arranged beneath the seat-opening and above the receptacle, of a pair of flaps adapted to extend across and seal such passage, a pair of transversely mounted spindles upon which the respective flaps are secured, a crank upon the end of each spindle, a connecting bar extending between and articulated to such cranks, and means whereby this bar may be moved up and down, substantially as and for the purposes specified.

No. 25370.—18th December, 1908.—ANDREW TAIT WALKER ALLAN, of Henderson, Miner, and ARTHUR RICHARD RANN, of Mount Eden, Auckland, both in New Zealand. An improved portable roller-mill for the treatment of tailings, gold-bearing sand, and the like.

Extract from Specification.—The invention comprises a fluming which leads from the material to be treated to the machine in such a way that the water will carry the material down the shoots forming the fluming, a grating or deviating screen is placed so as to intercept between one shoot and the other shoot to throw all rough stones off, fluted rollers working over V-shaped boxes or hoppers formed and working as stated below, a slanting floor hung below rollers and having at its bottom perforated distributors, silvered coppered plates, silvered copper ripples, shoot below to carry material on to concentrating-boxes and other parts placed and working as specified.
