A candidate who, not being an efficient member of the Officers’ Training Corps, has been attached continuously for twelve weeks must obtain both the above certificates at the termination of the attachment.

NOTE.—The above certificates are applicable in the case of a candidate who has been attached to an infantry unit. In the case of a candidate attached to a cavalry or artillery unit, the wording of the certificates will be modified to suit the changed conditions, an equal standard of efficiency being certified to.

The certificates will be sent by the commanding officer, immediately after the attachment, to the Secretary of the Military Nomination Board of the university to which the candidate belongs.

  1. The following amendments will be made in Appendix IV:—
    (i.) Section 1, Military history and strategy, delete—
    “ (n.) The strategic counterstroke and the strategic pursuit.”
    And heading “ (o) ” should be relettered “ (n).”
    (ii.) Section 4, for “ Military topography ” substitute “ Map-reading, field sketching, and reconnaissance.”
    (iii.) Section 5, Military law, substitute the following for the present headings indicating the scope of the examination:—

Varied Notice fixing Closing-hours of Drapers’ Shops in the Borough of Napier under the Shops and Offices Act.


WHEREAS a requisition in writing, signed by a majority of the occupiers of all the drapers’ shops in the Borough of Napier, has been forwarded to me, desiring that all such shops in the borough shall be closed in the evening of working-days as follows: Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays, 6 p.m., and for all shopkeepers closing at 1 p.m. on Wednesdays, 9.30 p.m. on Saturdays; and for all closing at 1 p.m. on Saturdays, 9.30 p.m. on Fridays; except Christmas and New Year’s Eve, when the hours shall be optional: And whereas the Napier Borough Council has certified that the signatures to such requisition represent a majority of the occupiers of all the drapers’ shops in the Borough of Napier:

Now, therefore, I, John Andrew Millar, acting for and on behalf of the Minister of Labour, in pursuance of section 25 of “The Shops and Offices Act, 1908,” do hereby direct that from and after the 3rd day of May, 1909, all drapers’ shops in the Borough of Napier shall be closed in accordance with such requisition.

The notice gazetted on the 10th day of September, 1908, fixing the closing-hours of all such shops, is hereby varied accordingly.
