The total births in the above boroughs amounted to 637, against 553 in February—an increase of 84. The deaths in March were 245, an increase of 37 on the number in February. Of the total deaths, males contributed 148, females 97. Eighty-three of the deaths were of children under five years of age, being 33·88 per cent. of the whole number; 69 of these were under one year of age.
There were sixty-two deaths of persons of 65 years and upwards: Seven men, 67, 69, 70, 72, 74, 79, 86, and eleven women, 65 (two), 67, 70, 74, 77, 80, 82, 84, 85, 90, died at Auckland; eleven men, 65 (two), 66 (two), 67, 70, 73 (three), 76, 77, and three women, 65 (two), 67, at Wellington; eleven men, 65 (two), 67, 69, 71, 73, 75, 76 (two), 77, 80, and six women, 65, 69, 71, 72, 74, 75, at Christchurch; and nine men, 65, 67 (two), 72, 74, 75, 79, 88, 90, and four women, 65, 75, 77, 78, at Dunedin.
