lands described in the Schedule hereto shall be open for sale or selection on Wednesday, the tenth day of March, one thousand nine hundred and nine; and also that the lands mentioned in the said Schedule may, at the option of the applicant, be purchased for cash, or be selected for occupation with right of purchase, or on renewable lease; and I do hereby also fix the prices at which the said lands shall be sold, occupied, or leased, as mentioned in the said Schedule hereto, and do declare that the said lands shall be sold, occupied, or leased under and subject to the provisions of “The Land Act, 1908.”

Clutha County.—Catlins Survey District.

A rough bush section, broken by a number of deep gullies. The general aspect is south-east, and the soil is light. The timber is light. Situated about twelve miles from Owaka Railway-station and about a mile from a school.

Lake County.—Lower Wanaka Survey District.

Weighted with £16, valuation for fencing.
An area of about 10 acres is flat, the rest of the section being hilly and covered with bracken. Northerly aspect. There is no permanent water on the section. Situated close to the Town of Pembroke.

Southland County.—Tautuku Survey District.

This section has a good aspect, but the soil is of inferior quality. The timber, with little variation, is small dense kamai. Situated about three miles and a half from a dairy factory, school, and post-office.

Clutha County.—Warepa Survey District.

These sections contain a large proportion of bush of no market value. Fair soil. Situated about a mile from Purekireki Post-office.

Opening National Endowment Lands in Westland Land District for Selection.

PLUNKET, Governor.

IN pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities conferred upon me by “The Land Act, 1908,” I, William Lee, Baron Plunket, the Governor of the Dominion of New Zealand, do hereby declare that the national endowment lands described in the Schedule hereto shall be open for selection on renewable lease on Wednesday, the tenth day of March, one thousand nine hundred and nine, at the rentals mentioned in the said Schedule; and I do also declare that the said lands shall be leased under and subject to the provisions of the said Act.

The remainder of the section comprises undulating land, covered with mixed bush of rimu, miro, and birch; well watered by creeks. Situated on the Clearwater River, three-quarters of a mile from Pekanga Post and Telephone Office.

Altitude, from 350 ft. to 900 ft. above sea-level. About 50 acres flat, of which 40 acres is covered with ribbonwood and scrub, and 10 acres white-pine, the soil being of a light sandy nature about 3 ft. deep. The remainder of the section is hilly, carrying bush of rimu and birch. There is very little soil on the slopes, the land being very stony. Situated on the Clearwater River, about three miles and a half from Pekanga Post and Telephone Office.

Imposing a Duty on Bevelled or Silvered Glass other than Plate Glass.

PLUNKET, Governor.

WHEREAS bevelled or silvered glass other than plate glass is imported into New Zealand: And whereas such glass, in the opinion of the Minister of Customs, possesses such properties that it can be used for purposes similar to those for which plate glass bevelled or silvered is used, the said plate glass being liable to the following duties of Customs, namely: Twenty-five per cent. ad valorem if the produce or manufacture of some part of the British dominions, and thirty-seven and one-half per cent. ad valorem if not the produce of such dominions:
Now, therefore, I, William Lee, Baron Plunket, the Governor of the Dominion of New Zealand, in pursuance and exercise of the powers and authority conferred upon me by section sixty-six of “The Customs Law Act, 1908,” do hereby direct that there shall be levied on all bevelled or silvered glass other than plate glass the following duties of Customs, namely: Twenty-five per cent. ad valorem if the produce or manufacture of some part of the British dominions, and thirty-seven and one-half per cent. ad valorem if not the produce of such dominions.

As witness the hand of His Excellency the Governor, this twenty-first day of December, one thousand nine hundred and eight.
