Claims.—(1.) A case, a lid hinged thereto, a pivotally connected end, a socket secured to the said end, all arranged substantially as described with reference to the drawings. (2.) A device having its parts constructed, arranged, and adapted to act substantially as described and as illustrated in the drawing for the purpose specified.

No. 24463.—30th May, 1908.—EDWIN DANIEL BERRY, of Ferguson Street East, Palmerston North, New Zealand, Mechanical Engineer. Improved means for weighing and delivering whey, skim-milk, and other liquids in predetermined quantities.*


Claim.—(1.) In means for the automatic distribution of liquids, a pivoted scale-bar, a weighing-tank on one end thereof, having an inlet-valve and an outlet-valve, a weight slidably mounted on the other end, a rotating drum, a cord wound upon such drum and connected to the sliding-weight, means for keeping such cord taut, a dial upon the face of the drum, a fixed pointer arranged in front thereof, and means whereby the tipping of the scale-bar will close the inflow-valve and open the outlet-valve of the weighing-tank, substantially as specified.

No. 24465.—30th May, 1908.—JOHN MORRIS WILLETS, of Christchurch, New Zealand, Threshing-engine Proprietor. Improved means for automatically releasing bags of chaff attached to the bagging-ring of a chaff-cutter when such bags are in a filled condition.*


Claims.—(1.) For the purpose specified, the combination with a chaff-cutter bagging-ring of hooks pivotally attached thereto, and each formed with a downward extension adapted to engage with the surface of the bagging-spout upon which the ring is fitted and to retain the hook in the upward position, substantially as specified. (2.) The improved means for automatically releasing bags of chaff attached to the bagging-ring of a chaff-cutter when such bags are in a filled condition, substantially as described and explained, and as illustrated in the drawings.

No. 24468.—29th May, 1908.—EDWARD SAMUEL WELLS, of Moffatt Street, Ipswich, Queensland, Australia, Grocer. An improved butter-cutting machine.*


Claims.—(1.) In an improved butter-cutting machine, the combination of a wooden frame, a top frame with wires strained across same, underside of said top frame chamfered on the inside, and grooved pulleys revolving upon pins in slots of said frame, as described, and illustrated by drawings. (2.) In an improved butter-cutting machine, the combination of a wooden frame, a top stationary frame with cutting-wires strained across same, as described, and illustrated by drawings. (3.) In an improved butter-cutting machine, the combination of a wooden frame, a strained lateral cutting-wire adapted to move backward and forward across said frame, as and for the purpose set forth and as described, and illustrated by drawings. (4.) In an improved butter-cutting machine, the combination of a wooden frame, a base-plate, a butter-plate provided with V-shaped slots across the face, a bed-plate, rails on underside of same sliding between rails on base-plate, an axle revolving in bearers beneath base-plate, grooved wheels keyed to said axle, chains attached to said wheels travelling over grooved pulleys in top frame and fastened to base-plate, said wheels and chains adapted to raise and lower the base-plate, a milled-edge wheel keyed to said axle, and an arresting-pawl pivoted to side frame, as described, and illustrated by drawings.

No. 24489.—4th June, 1908.—JOHN BLAKE, of Otakeho, Taranaki, New Zealand, Farmer. Improvements in vacuum tanks for milking-machines.*


Claim.—(1.) In a tank of the kind described, a dished or sloping bottom provided at its lowest part with a screw plug or a stock-cock, the opening at the top of the tank having a diameter equal to the body of the tank, and a lid covering and made airtight with the top, substantially as set forth.

No. 24512.—11th June, 1908.—JOHN MORGAN TAYLOR and HENRY OAKLEY, both of Colombo Street, Christchurch, New Zealand, Plumbers and Gasfitters. Improvements in windows.*


Claims.—(1.) A window-frame constructed of galvanised sheet iron formed with bevels, rebates for receiving the glass, and flanges for attachment to a wall, substantially as set forth. (2.) A window-frame comprising a sill, head, bars, and stiles made of galvanised sheet iron, the said stiles and bars having integral flanges by which they are secured to the sill and head, substantially as set forth. (3.) In a window-frame of the kind described, the means of securing wired glass to the frame, comprising a rod secured to the frame and around which projecting wire of the glass is bent, substantially as set forth. (4.) The combination and arrangement of parts comprising the improvements in windows, substantially as and for the purposes set forth and illustrated.

No. 24561.—25th June, 1908.—CHARLES MCLACHLAN GRAHAM, of 16 Isabella Street, Malvern, Bourke, Victoria, Australia, Civil Servant. An improved insulator.*


Claims.—(1.) In an electric insulator, an inverted cup-shaped internally threaded protector screwed upon an insulating medium, wax between the insulator and the protector, substantially as set forth. (2.) In an electric insulator, an inverted cup-shaped internally threaded protector, said protector being of wood, said wood being coated internally and externally with boiling tar, a film of wax inside said protector, all as and for the purposes set forth.

No. 24564.—25th June, 1908.—CHARLES MCLACHLAN GRAHAM, of 16 Isabella Street, Malvern, Bourke, Victoria, Australia, Civil Servant. An improved reinforced wooden support for insulators.*


Claims.—(1.) In an improved reinforced support for electric insulators, a non-conducting support to the top of which is threaded an insulator, said support being characterized by a recess, the head of a central metallic member reposing below the top of said recess, said member passing through said support to the body to which the insulator is to be attached. (2.) In an improved reinforced support for electric insulators, a wooden support to the top of which is threaded an insulator, and in which top is a recess, said wooden support being reinforced and secured by a metallic central reinforcing member and having an up-splash preventer below said insulator.

Claims.—(1.) The using of black lithographic ink reduced to working-consistency with tar for printing the subject on the zinc intended to be used as an overlay. (2.) The substitution of zinc for paper overlays heretofore used in half-tone-block printing. (3.) The use of black lithographic ink reduced with tar for protecting the back of zinc.
