LOCALITY AND DESCRIPTION.
Piripiri Block adjoins the Piripiri and Matamau Railway-stations, on the Wellington-Napier Railway line, two miles from Dannevirke and seventy-seven miles from Napier. It was formerly covered with heavy mixed forest, but nearly all the marketable timber has now been milled. During last summer the greater part of the block was swept by fire, and on the burnt portions a mixture of English grasses was sown, with very good results. When thoroughly cleared and stumped the greater part of the low country, which is level and undulating, with good soil, will be ploughable. The high country is broken, with soil varying from fair to inferior. The range of altitude varies from 750 ft. to 1,350 ft. above sea-level. All the sections, with the exception of some of the small areas, are well watered, most of them by several streams. On the surrounding country dairying has been successfully carried on for a number of years, and all the small sections now offered are suitable for that class of farming. School and creamery sites have been reserved. The right to use the trolly-lines on Sections 2, 3, 5, 11, 12, 17, 23, 27, and 28, Block IX, and Section 33, Block XIV, Norsewood Survey District, is reserved until the expiry of existing timber-cutting rights.
Areas may be subject to slight alteration.
Successful applicants will have no claim to fences other than those on the Main Road frontage. The right to allow the removal within three months of all other fences on the block is retained.
The owners of buildings will be allowed two months in which to remove or otherwise dispose of them.
HENRY TRENT,
Commissioner of Crown Lands.
