SECOND SCHEDULE.

EAST WARD.

ALL that part of the area described in the First Schedule
hereto which lies east of Quarry Road from Cemetery Road
to the Main South Road ; a right line thence across the
Main South Road to the south-western corner of Section
No. 71, Lower Kaikorai District; the western boundary of
the last-mentioned section, and that boundary produced to
Duke Street.

WEST WARD.

All that part of the area described in the First Schedule
hereto which lies west of the eastern side of Quarry Road
from Cemetery Road to the Main South Road ; a right line
thence across the Main South Road to the south-western
corner of Section No. 71, Lower Kaikorai District; the
western boundary of the last-mentioned section, and that
boundary produced to Duke Street: excepting the Borough
of Green Island, as described in the New Zealand Gazette
No. 9, of the 24th January, 1878.

Chinese Immigrants.

PLUNKET, Governor.

ORDER IN COUNCIL.

At the Government House, at Wellington, this twentieth
day of November, 1908.

Present :

HIS EXCELLENCY THE GOVERNOR IN COUNCIL.

IN exercise of the powers conferred upon him by " The
Immigration Restriction Amendment Act, 1908," and
of all other powers and authorities enabling him in this
behalf, His Excellency the Governor of the Dominion of
New Zealand, acting by and with the advice and consent of
the Executive Council of the said Dominion, doth hereby
make the following regulations prescribing the manner in
which and the conditions on which registration under the
said Act may be effected :β€”

REGULATIONS.

  1. Any Chinese resident in New Zealand who desires to
    leave New Zealand with the intention of returning thereto
    shall apply to the Collector of Customs at the port nearest
    to the place where he is best known, or at the final port of
    departure, for a certificate of registration.

  2. The Collector shall issue a certificate in the form in
    the Schedule hereto, and hand it to the Chinese applying
    for the same. A duplicate of this certificate shall be re-
    tained by the Collector, and filed in his office.

  3. Each Chinese applying for a certificate shall be re-
    quired to provide two photographs of himself, one of which
    shall be securely attached to the certificate and the other to
    the duplicate of the same. He shall also be required to
    place impressions of his thumbs on both forms of certificate
    for the purposes of identification, if necessary, on his re-
    turn.

  4. On the return to New Zealand of a Chinese holding a
    certificate as above provided, the Collector at the first port
    of arrival shall, if satisfied of the identity of the holder
    with the person named in the certificate, and that he has
    returned within four years after the date of registration,
    regard such Chinese as exempt from compliance with the
    requirements of section forty-two of " The Immigration
    Restriction Act, 1908."

  5. If the Collector is uncertain as to the identity of the
    Chinese holding a certificate with the photograph attached
    to same, he shall require the Chinese to place his thumb-
    prints on the certificate, and compare same with the
    thumb-prints taken before leaving New Zealand ; and, if
    still uncertain as to identity, the Collector shall regard the
    Chinese as liable to comply with the requirements of the
    said section forty-two, and he shall not be allowed to land
    if unable to fulfil the same.

  6. All certificates presented by returned Chinese shall be
    retained by the Collector and forwarded to the Collector at
    the port of issue, and there filed with the duplicates.

SCHEDULE.

CERTIFICATE OF REGISTRATION UNDER " THE IMMIGRATION
RESTRICTION AMENDMENT ACT, 1908."

This is to certify that , a Chinese residing in New
Zealand, being desirous of leaving New Zealand, has regis-
tered his name with me.

If he returns to New Zealand within four years from the
date hereof he will not be liable to submit to the reading-

test imposed upon Chinese by section 42 of " The Immigra-
tion Restriction Act, 1908," if he satisfies a Collector of
Customs as to his identity. On return to New Zealand the
tax will be received on deposit, and will be returned upon
identification.

Closing Military Cemetery, Rangiriri.

ORDER IN COUNCIL.

At the Government House, at Wellington, this twentieth
day of November, 1908.

Present :

HIS EXCELLENCY THE GOVERNOR IN COUNCIL.

WHEREAS it appears to the Governor that burials in
the Military Cemetery, at Rangiriri, described in
the Schedule hereto, should be wholly discontinued : And
whereas a sufficient cemetery not within the limits of any
borough or town district has been provided, and has been
prepared for the interment of the dead, as required by " The
Cemeteries Act, 1908 " :

Now, therefore, His Excellency the Governor, by and with
the advice and consent of the Executive Council of the
Dominion of New Zealand, and in pursuance of the autho-
rities vested in him by the said " Cemeteries Act, 1908,"
doth hereby order and direct that, from and after the
first day of June, one thousand nine hundred and nine,
burials within the Military Cemetery, at Rangiriri, described
in the aforesaid Schedule, shall be wholly discontinued; and,
further, that the said cemetery or burial-ground shall, from
and after the said first day of June, one thousand nine hun-
dred and nine, be vested in the Commissioner of Crown
Lands, at Auckland, under the provisions and for the pur-
poses of the seventy-eighth section of the said " Cemeteries
Act, 1908."

SCHEDULE.

ALL that area in the Auckland Land District, being Sec-
tion 108, Town of Rangiriri, and containing by admeasure-
ment 1 acre 2 roods, more or less. Bounded towards the
north-west by Morphy Street, 300 links ; towards the north-
east by Talbot Street, 500 links ; towards the south-east by
Waikato Esplanade, 300 links ; and towards the south-west
by Sections 184 and 179 of the Town of Rangiriri aforesaid,
500 links : be all the aforesaid linkages more or less.
