Notice to Mariners No. 9 of 1908.

THE following Notice to Mariners, received from the President of the Marine Board, Port Adelaide, South Australia, is published for general information.

GULF ST. VINCENT.—APPROACH TO THE OUTER HARBOUR, PORT ADELAIDE.

Notice is hereby given that on or before the 1st January, 1908, there will be placed at the western end of the outer cutting a large black buoy, surmounted by a lantern-cage, from which will be exhibited a green light, visible four miles. Approximate position: The lighthouse on Wonga Shoal bearing S. ⅔ E., distant 2·1 miles, and the structure of the old lighthouse E. by N. ¼ N., distant one mile.

The cutting is 200 ft. wide, with a depth of 33 ft. at O.L.S. Two white beacons, showing white lights by night, have been placed to lead through the cutting, which, when in line, bear N. 74 E. The outer beacon is between the end of the revetment mound and the old lighthouse, the inner one is 1,800 ft. further back.

Sailing Directions.

Vessels going to berth at the Outer Harbour should, when approaching the anchorage, steer for a position about one cable west of the black buoy, so that the vessel can be pointed in the line of leads before entering the cutting. With the leads in line pass south of buoy (which is on the northern edge of the channel); keep the leads on until abreast of No. 0 green light-beacon, when No. 1 leads will be coming on, keep these in (N. 55 E.) line until abreast of No. 1 green light-beacon, when No. 2 red lead will be on; then steer for a safe distance off the wharf, or for No. 3 white light-beacon until abreast of the wharf. A warping-buoy has been placed on the north bank opposite the wharf for warping purposes, if required.

Notice to Mariners No. 10 of 1908.

WEST COAST OF NORTH ISLAND.—ROCKY PATCH OFF WAIPAPA POINT, SOUTH-WEST OF WHAINGAROA HARBOUR.

Wellington, N.Z., 1st February, 1908.

CAPTAIN BOLLONS, of the Government steamer “Hinemoa,” reports that a rocky patch with 9 fathoms over it at L.W.S. exists 1¼ miles off Waipapa Point. It is reported that in heavy westerly gales the sea breaks over this patch, which is 400 ft. in area, and a favourite feeding-ground for fish. At a distance of two to three cables from the position of patch, 14 to 16 fathoms of water was obtained on all sides. The following magnetic bearings indicate the position of the patches:—

Waipapa Point .. .. S. 72° E., 1¼ miles distant.
Woody Head points in line N. 31° E.
Jackson’s house.. .. N. 75° E.

The Native name of the rock is Patuatini.

Authorising the Laying-off of Oak, Pine, and Upper Stout Streets, in the Township of Elim, of a Width of not less than 66 ft. each.

IN pursuance of the power and authority conferred upon me by section 2 of “The Towns Main Streets Act, 1902.” I do hereby authorise the laying-off of Oak, Pine, and Upper Stout Streets, in the Township of Elim, Hawke’s Bay Land District, of a width of not less than 66 ft. each, instead of 99 ft. as prescribed by section 17 of “The Land Act, 1892.”

Notice cancelling Forfeiture of William James Fargher’s Lease of Section 1, Block XII, Ruataniwha Survey District (Forest Gate Settlement).

WHEREAS the Land Board of the Hawke’s Bay Land District, by resolution on the 14th day of December, 1906, forfeited the interest of William James Fargher in his lease, registered in Vol. 5L, folio 83, Hawke’s Bay Registry, over Section 1, Block XII, Ruataniwha Survey District (Forest Gate Settlement), in the said land district, for non-payment of rent and other breaches of the conditions of his lease, and notice of such forfeiture was duly published in the Gazette of the 24th day of January, 1907: And whereas by clause 15 of “The Reserves and other Lands Disposal and Public Bodies Empowering Act, 1907,” the Minister of Lands was empowered, by notice in the Gazette, to cancel the said forfeiture upon payment to the Commissioner of Crown Lands for the said district of all arrears of rent and rates due in respect of the said land, together with all disbursements and expenses paid or incurred by the said Commissioner in connection with the said forfeiture:

Now, therefore, I, Robert McNab, Minister of Lands, having received a certificate from the said Commissioner that all arrears of rent and rates in respect of the said land, and all disbursements and expenses paid or incurred by him in connection with the said forfeiture, have been duly received, do hereby cancel the forfeiture of the lease of the said William James Fargher over the said land, and notify that the forfeiture of such lease shall be deemed to be wholly waived and abandoned, and the said lease, and all mortgages or encumbrances affecting the same, shall take effect and be deemed to have continued to have effect as if no such forfeiture had occurred or been declared. The District Land Registrar, on receipt of a copy of the Gazette containing this notice, shall make such entries in the Register as are necessary to give effect to the same.

Notice by the Public Trustee under “The Unclaimed Lands Act, 1894.”

To the owner or owners of a parcel of land, containing 1 acre, more or less, being Allotment 342, in the Town of Hamilton East, in the Provincial District of Auckland. Bounded on the north-east by a road, 364 links; on the south-east by Allotment 344, 275 links; on the south-west by Allotment 343A, 364 links; and on the north-west by a road, 275 links. The land was Crown-granted to Isabella Wilkie, described as widow of James Wilkie, late military settler, Hawke’s Bay, who cannot now be traced.

WHEREAS the Public Trustee has instituted inquiries, and has not thereby ascertained who the owner or owners of the above-described land is or are, and believes that such owner is, or owners are, not in the Dominion:

Now, this notice calls upon such owner or owners, within six months of the date of the publication of this notice in this Gazette, to establish to the satisfaction of the Public Trustee his or their title to the land specified in this notice; and, if such owner does or owners do not, within the time limited, so establish his or their title, the Public Trustee will exercise the powers and authorities granted to him in and by “The Unclaimed Lands Act, 1894.”
