Special Order made by the Buller County Council, altering Ridings and fixing Representation.

THE following special order, made by the Buller County Council, is published in accordance with the provisions of “The Counties Act, 1908.”

BULLER COUNTY.

Special Order, made by the Buller County Council by resolution passed at a special meeting of the Council held on Monday, the 21st September, 1908, and confirmed at a Subsequent Special Meeting of the said Council held on Tuesday, the 20th October, 1908, altering the Number of the Ridings within the County of Buller and the Names and Boundaries thereof.

WHEREAS by section 44 of “The Counties Act, 1886,” and its amendments, it is enacted that by special order the Council may at any time, for the purpose of adjustment of the representation in the Council when the same is authorised or otherwise, from time to time, alter the number of ridings within the county, subject to the condition that the number of ridings shall not be more than nine, except in the case of united counties :

Now, it is hereby resolved by the Council of the Buller County that, in exercise and pursuance of the powers in or possessed by the said Council or by the provisions of “The Counties Act, 1886,” and its amendments, and in exercise and pursuance of every other power it herewith enabling, the Council of the County of Buller doth hereby make the following special order and ordain as follows: That the former ridings of the Buller County—namely, Charleston, Lyell, Wareatea South, Wareatea North, and Karamea—be abolished, and the county be redivided into nine ridings, with one Councillor to represent each riding, and that the names and boundaries of the ridings be as follows:—

Charleston Riding.

Bounded towards the north by the summit of the watershed between the Okari River and the Totara River, towards the east by the Mount Buckland watershed and Inangahua and Grey Counties, towards the south by the Grey County, and towards the west by the ocean.

Wareatea South Riding.

Bounded on the north and west by the ocean from the Charleston Riding to Buller River, towards the north-east by the Buller River from the sea to the junction of Blackwater River, on the east by Blackwater River, on the south-east by Inangahua County, and on the south by Charleston Riding.

Wareatea Riding.

Bounded on the north westward by the ocean from Buller River to Wareatea River, on the east by block-line between Blocks IV and V and VIII and IX, Kawatiri Survey District, thence by a continuation of the said line due south to the Buller River at Cascade Creek, and on the south-westward by Wareatea South Riding.

Waimangaroa Riding.

Bounded on the north-west by the ocean from Wareatea River to the Waimangaroa River, and on the north-east by the Waimangaroa River to its intersection with the boundary-line between the Kawatiri and Ngakawau Survey Districts, thence on the east by a line running due south to the Orikaki Creek, on the south by the Lyell and Wareatea South Ridings, and on the west by the Wareatea Riding.

Ngakawau Riding.

Bounded on the north-east by the ocean from Waimangaroa River to the Ngakawau River; on the north by the Ngakawau River from the sea to the junction of Mine Creek; thence towards the south-west by a right line from the north-east corner of Section 13, Block I, Ngakawau Survey District, to the north-east corner of Kawatiri Survey District, Block II; thence due south along the block-line between Kawatiri and Ngakawau Survey Districts to the Waimangaroa River; thence on the south-west by the Waimangaroa River to the ocean.

Millerton Riding.

Bounded towards the north by the Ngakawau River from the junction of Mine Creek to its source on the summit of the Lyell Range, thence by the watershed of the Lyell Range to the source of the Orikaka River, on the east by the Orikaka River to its junction with the Buller River, and on the west and north-west by the Waimangaroa and Ngakawau Ridings.

Mokihinui Riding.

Bounded on the west by the ocean from Ngakawau River to Little Wanganui River, on the north by Little Wanganui River to its source on the summit of Mount Owen Range, on the east by Inangahua County, and on the south by Lyell and Millerton Ridings.

Karamea Riding.

Bounded on the west by the ocean from Little Wanganui River to Collingwood County boundary, on the north by Collingwood County, on the east by the Counties of Waimea and Inangahua, and on the south by Mokihinui Riding.

Lyell Riding.

Commencing at the junction of Blackwater and Buller Rivers, and bounded to the north and west by Waimangaroa, Millerton, and Mokihinui Ridings, and on the east and south by Inangahua County, and on the west by Wareatea South Riding.

That each of the said nine ridings be represented by one Councillor.

That this special order shall take effect on the date of gazetting thereof.

The common seal of the body corporate called the Chairman, Councillors, and Inhabitants of the County of Buller was affixed hereto in the presence of—
