- The remaining suburbs do not lie within borough boundaries, and particulars respecting them have not been obtained for the Vital Statistics.
† Populations of Wellington, Karori, Onslow, and Christchurch given according to alterations of boundaries since January.
Deaths occurring at hospitals, of persons not residents of the borough wherein the hospital is situated, have been allotted in each case to the borough where the disease was contracted, and not to that in which the death actually took place.
The total births in the above boroughs amounted to 609, against 599 in November—an increase of 10. The deaths in December were 220, an increase of 12 on the number in November. Of the total deaths, males contributed 125, females 95. Fifty-five of the deaths were of children under five years of age, being 25 per cent. of the whole number; 40 of these were under one year of age.
There were sixty-two deaths of persons of 65 years and upwards: Eight men, 67, 68, 69, 75, 77, 80, 85, 89, and eleven women, 65, 67, 72, 74, 75 (two), 83 (two), 84 (two), 88, died at Auckland; eight men, 70, 71, 72, 73 (two), 76, 79, 97, and four women, 69, 70, 73, 88, at Wellington; seven men, 66, 67 (two), 72, 74, 82, 86, and three women, 77, 79, 86, at Christchurch; and twelve men, 68, 69, 71 (two), 73, 74, 77 (two), 78, 80, 82, 88, and nine women, 67, 68, 73, 75, 76 (two), 80, 83, 86, at Dunedin.
