Prison proclaimed.

A PROCLAMATION.

WHEREAS by an Act of the General Assembly of New Zealand intituled “The Prisons Act, 1882,” it is provided that the Governor may, by Proclamation published in the Gazette, declare any house, building, enclosure, or place to be a prison, and from and after the gazetting of any such Proclamation, or from any time later specified in the Proclamation, such house, building, enclosure, or place shall be deemed a prison:

Now, therefore, I, William Lee, Baron Plunket, the Governor of the Dominion of New Zealand, in pursuance of the above-recited power and authority, do hereby declare that the buildings and huts situated on all that area in the Canterbury Land District, containing by admeasurement 754 acres 2 roods, more or less, situated in Lyndon Survey District, bounded towards the north and east by Run No. 17, towards the south by the said Run No. 17 and Section No. 43, Block II, and towards the west generally by the road forming the eastern boundaries of Sections Nos. 36, 35, and 33, Block II, by Jollie’s Pass Reserve and a public road; and all enclosures used or occupied therewith shall, from and after the publication of this Proclamation in the Gazette, be a prison, known as the Hanmer Springs Prison, within the meaning and for the purposes of “The Prisons Act, 1882.”

Given under the hand of His Excellency the Right Honourable William Lee, Baron Plunket, Knight Commander of the Most Distinguished Order of Saint Michael and Saint George, Knight Commander of the Royal Victorian Order, Governor and Commander-in-Chief in and over His Majesty’s Dominion of New Zealand and its Dependencies; and issued under the Seal of the said Dominion, at the Government House, at Wellington, this twenty-third day of January, in the year of our Lord one thousand nine hundred and eight.

Now, therefore, I, William Lee, Baron Plunket, the Governor of the Dominion of New Zealand, in pursuance of the above-recited power and authority, do hereby declare that the buildings and huts situated on all that area in the Auckland Land District, situated in the Paeroa Survey District, bounded towards the north-east by Run No. 79 and Rotomahana-Parekarangi 5b, Onuku Block, and Run No. 94 to the Rotorua-Galatea Road; thence towards the south generally by that road to the western boundary of the Rainbow Mountain Reserve; and thence towards the west by the western boundary of the said Rainbow Mountain Reserve to Run No. 79 as aforesaid: and all enclosures used or occupied therewith shall, from and after the publication of this Proclamation in the Gazette, be a prison, known as the Waiotapu Prison, within the meaning and for the purposes of “The Prisons Act, 1882.”
