(2.) In a trap, a pair of footplates hinged to a frame, which is normally about level, and retains (by means of a catch) the trap in its set position, the parts being so arranged that when sprung the footplates have first a downward swing on a pivot common to both of them, and next an upward and opposite outward swing to allow the gripping-arms of the trap to rise between them, substantially as described and shown.
(3.) The general construction, arrangement, and combination of parts forming my improved trap to catch and kill wild animals without torturing them, substantially as described and shown.

No. 21462.—The following entry has been made in the Register of Patents against Letters Patent No. 21462, A. W. H. Vivian, artificial fuel: “By an indenture dated the 10th May, 1905 (a copy of which has this 8th day of January, 1908, been left at the Patent Office), between Avando Warren Hussey Vivian, of 108 Hop Exchange, London, England (hereinafter called ‘the vendor’), and Edwin Wood, of 231 Elizabeth Street, Melbourne, Victoria (hereinafter called ‘the purchaser’), the vendor, inter alia, covenants with the purchaser to impart to him a process or processes for the manufacture of an article called ‘Vaincre Composite Fuel,’ and any improvement he may discover or become acquainted with in connection with such process, and to execute and sign all such deeds, agreements, and documents, and to do all such acts and things as may be necessary or desirable for assuring to and vesting in the said Edwin Wood the sole and exclusive right to use the said secret process or processes in the Commonwealth of Australia and Dominion of New Zealand, and the sole and exclusive right there to sell articles manufactured by or with the use of the said process or processes, all as fully set forth, and subject to the considerations in said indenture, in which it is also declared that the purchaser, his executors, administrators, and assigns shall have full and free liberty to use, sell, grant licenses, or otherwise deal with the said process or processes in the said Commonwealth and Dominion.”
No. 21462.—The following entry has been made on the Register of Patents against Letters Patent No. 21462, A. W. H. Vivian, artificial fuel: “By deed dated the 27th December, 1907 (a copy of which has been left at the Patent Office on the 8th January, 1908), Edwin Wood, of 231 Elizabeth Street, Melbourne, Victoria, Commonwealth of Australia, Manufacturer’s Agent, grants to the Vivian Briquette and Coal Company, Limited, a company duly registered in the Dominion of New Zealand under ‘The Companies Act, 1903,’ full and exclusive and irrevocable license to use the said process and manufacture and sell articles manufactured under the said Letters patent in the Dominion of New Zealand during the residue now unexpired of the term for which the said Letters patent were granted, and during any prolongation or extension thereof, upon the terms and conditions set out in the deed.”
