No. 24698.—21st July, 1908.—AMBRO, LIMITED, of Mildura, Victoria, Australia, Manufacturers (assignees of Otto Louis Moritz Abramowski, of Mildura, aforesaid, Doctor of Medicine, and Ferdinand Rosing, of Mildura, aforesaid, Fruit-grower). Improvements in and relating to food compositions.

Claims.—(1.) A self-preserving food composition adapted for immediate eating, comprising dried grapes (raisins, or raisins and sultanas) mixed and compressed with between one-sixteenth and one-sixth the weight thereof of desiccated, ground, or divided nut, the whole incorporated into a solid mass without other ingredients, as indicated. (2.) A compressed-food composition adapted for immediate eating, comprising dried grapes (raisins, or raisins and sultanas) mixed and compressed with from about one-sixteenth to one-sixth the weight thereof of desiccated, ground, or divided nut, the whole incorporated into a solid mass, and having any predetermined flavouring, seasoning, sweetening, fruit, or food addition as minor ingredient or ingredients.

No. 24702.—21st July, 1908.—JAMES THOMAS HUNTER, of Queen’s Chambers, Wellington, New Zealand, Patent Agent, (nominee of Linotype and Machinery, Limited, of 188 and 189 Fleet Street, London, England, the assignees of Christian Augustus Albrecht and Carl Muehleisen, Engineers, both of 23 Chausseestrasse, Berlin, Germany). Improvements in typographical composing-machines.

Extract from Specification.—The present invention relates to typographical composing-machines, and especially to that type of them which resemble a Mergenthaler linotype machine, in which the matrix-magazine is vertical. One of the drawbacks to that position of the magazine is the consequent elevation of the distributor, whereby the rectification of jams therein is made difficult. The objects of the said invention are to reduce the height of the machine, reduce the cost of it by simplifying its construction, and to remove the above-mentioned drawback. Accordingly the vertical magazine is lowered so as to reduce the distance between its delivery-mouth and the oblique assembler-belt. The higher part of the latter is only slightly inclined. To prevent transposition of the matrices, the now shortened channels of the assembler-guide are bent in differing curves, the radii of the respective curvatures being successively reduced from right to left, so as to cause matrices from all the grooves in the magazines to travel to the assembling-mechanism in equal times. The means for releasing the first elevator prior to its movement into the casting-position, for separating the matrices from the space-bars, and for trimming the linotypes, are simplified.
[NOTE.—The above extract from the specification is inserted in place of the claims.]
(Specification, £2 3s. ; drawing, 9s.)

No. 24703.—21st July, 1908.—CHARLES SHIELDS MCINTIRE, of 83 Effra Road, Brixton, London, England, Mechanical Engineer. Improved construction of apparatus for casting links in chain form.

Claim.—Apparatus for casting chain-links, and having a mould composed of four sections, constructing the two bottom sections of the mould each with three upright projecting arms, the centre arms having two grooves which extend through the body of each section and up through the outside arms, fixing one section to a base or table, constructing the two upper sections with curved grooves to correspond with the grooves of the lower sections, and when combined form oval or equivalent grooves connected with a receiver for the molten metal, a lip or portion depending from the top sections for engaging the sides of the lower sections, to insure proper register when the four sections are together, providing the four sections with rods, each connected on one side of the mould at a distance therefrom by a hinge-joint, and with the rods on the movable sections extending on the other side, and provided with handles, all substantially as set forth for the purpose described.
(Specification, 5s. ; drawing, 3s.)

An asterisk (*) denotes the complete specification of an invention for which a provisional specification has been already lodged.
NOTE.—The cost of copying the specification and drawing has been inserted after the notice of each application. An order for a copy or copies should be accompanied by a post-office order or postal note for the cost of copying.
The date of acceptance of each application is given after the number.
Extracts from the drawings accompanying the foregoing complete specifications appear at the end of this Gazette.

Registrar.
