The total births in the above boroughs amounted to 583, against 588 in June—a decrease of 5. The deaths in July were 248, an increase of 37 on the number in June. Of the total deaths, males contributed 131, females 117. Forty-one of the deaths were of children under five years of age, being 16·53 per cent. of the whole number; 33 of these were under one year of age.

There were ninety-five deaths of persons of 65 years and upwards : Thirteen men, 66, 67, 68 (two), 69, 70 (three), 76, 80, 82, 84, 87, and ten women, 67 (three), 70, 71 (two), 72, 75, 76, 87, died at Auckland; fifteen men, 66, 67 (three), 71, 72, 73, 74, 75, 76, 77, 78 (three), 81, and ten women, 67, 68, 69, 73, 78 (three), 80, 86, 91, at Wellington; twelve men, 65 (two), 69, 70 (three), 71, 72, 73, 74, 75, 90, and eleven women, 65, 67, 68, 72 (two), 73, 75, 77, 80, 86 (two), at Christchurch ; and thirteen men, 67 (three), 68 (two), 69, 70, 72, 75, 77, 80, 82, 83, and eleven men, 65, 67, 69, 72, 73, 74, 75, 77, 83, 85, 95, at Dunedin.
