  1. (1.) The New Zealand Medical Corps Nursing Reserve is
    formed to carry out the nursing of wounded and sick men of the
    military forces of the Dominion when engaged in hostilities, and is
    affiliated to the Royal Army Nursing Service Reserve, of which Her
    Royal Highness Princess Christian of Schleswig-Holstein is President.
    (2.) It shall consist of qualified nurses willing to undertake the
    nursing of the sick in time of war in hospitals under the control of
    medical officers of the New Zealand Medical Corps.
    Β§(3.) Nurses after enrolment shall be treated as part of the military
    forces of New Zealand. A list of the names of those enrolled
    will be published in the New Zealand Army List, and nurses whose
    services have been accepted will be entitled to wear the badge and
    uniform of the New Zealand Medical Corps Nursing Service Reserve,
    and will be liable to be called on by the Council of Defence for duty
    at any time after the commencement of hostilities.
    (4.) The classification is as follows:-
    (a.) Matron-in-Chief.
    (b.) Matrons.
    (c.) Sisters.
    (d.) Staff nurses.
    (5.) The Matron-in-Chief shall be responsible to the Director-General, Medical Services, New Zealand, for the efficiency of the
    nursing service, and shall see that none but properly trained and
    qualified nurses are recommended for appointment. She shall also
    recommend matrons for appointment to hospitals under the control
    of the New Zealand Medical Corps.
    (6.) The general affairs of the Nursing Service Reserve will be
    managed by a committee consisting of the Director-General, the
    Matron-in-Chief, and one other officer or lady appointed by the
    Minister of Defence. In time of war the Reserve shall be under
    the direct control of the Director-General, and be governed by the
    regulations of the "Queen Alexandra's Imperial Military Nursing
    Service," as regards duty and discipline, where applicable.
    (7.) Application for enrolment must in the first place be made to
    the Matron-in-Chief.
    (8.) A candidate for admission must-
    (i.) Be over twenty-one and under forty years of age;
    (ii.) Produce a certificate that she is a registered nurse;
    (iii.) Also produce a certificate from the Superintendent of a
    recognised hospital where adult male patients receive
    medical and surgical treatment that she is of good
    character, and has served in the hospital for a period
    of six months; and
    (iv.) Also sign a declaration that she is willing to serve in the
    military hospitals of the Dominion at the rate of pay
    settled at the commencement of the period when the
    Nursing Reserve is called up.
    (9.) Nurses shall be retired at the age of fifty years.
    (10.) Pay will only be allowed when the Nursing Reserve is
    called out, and shall be settled by the Minister of Defence at the
    commencement of the service.
    (11.) Members when in nursing dress but not on military duty
    may wear the badge of the Army Nursing Service, with the addition of the letters "N.Z." to the other lettering, on the right breast.
    When on military duty they shall wear a uniform similar to that approved for the "Queen Alexandra's Imperial Nursing Service," with the exception that the cape shall be of grey material, with a border of scarlet cloth 2Β½ in. wide, and that the badge of the New Zealand Medical Corps Nursing Service Reserve is worn on the cape instead of that of Her Majesty Queen Alexandra.
    Regulation 126. The syllabus of examination shall be as follows :-
    RANK, CAPTAIN.
    First Paper.
    Same as for all arms as far as practicable.
    Second Paper.
    Drills and exercises (as laid down in the "Manual for the Royal
    Army Medical Corps," latest edition).
    Principles of military sanitation (as laid down in "Manual of
    Sanitation R.A.M.C.," latest edition).
