Opening National Endowment Lands in Nelson Land District
for Selection.
PLUNKET, Governor.
IN pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities
conferred upon me by “The Land Act, 1892,” and its
amendments, I, William Lee, Baron Plunket, the Governor
of the Dominion of New Zealand, do hereby declare that
the national endowment lands described in the Schedule
hereto shall be open for selection on renewable lease on
Wednesday, the twenty-fourth day of June, one thousand
nine hundred and eight, at the rentals mentioned in the
said Schedule; and I do also declare that the said lands
shall be leased under and subject to the provisions of
“The Land Act, 1892,” and the National Endowment Act,
1907.

Situated about twenty miles south of Takaka and fourteen
miles west of Motueka as the crow flies. Access is by the
Motueka Valley Main Road and the formed pack-track fol-
lowing the Graham River and Flora Creek for a distance of
about twenty miles from the Town of Motueka.
The northern portion of the block is of limestone formation,
the middle portion limestone and slate, and the southern
portion principally slate formation, the whole being covered
with heavy birch bush, with scattered cedars and the usual
heavy underscrub.

Consists almost wholly of hills and gullies, varying from
60 ft. to about 1,500 ft. above sea-level. Covered with bush,
consisting chiefly of birch, with some rimu in the gullies.
Granite formation; well watered. Situated back of Awaroa
Inlet. Access by surveyed track.

The country along the slopes is suitable for sheep; well
watered, and easy of access from the Motueka side of the
range. There is very little undergrowth, the principal
timber being stunted red-birch. The belt between the
Takaka River and the dividing range between the Takaka
and Cobb Rivers is inferior light-bush land. The northern
portion of the block is accessible from Upper Takaka, and is
distant twenty-four miles from the Villages of Waitapu and
Motueka respectively. The southern end of the block is
approached by way of the Graham River Track from
Motueka Village, from which it is distant about twenty-two
miles.

Bounded towards the north generally by the surveyed sec-
tions in Block III, Totaranui Survey District; towards the

south generally by Crown lands; and towards the west
generally by surveyed sections in Blocks V and VIII. Con-
sists chiefly of hills and gullies of an altitude varying from
about 500 ft. to 3,000 ft. above sea-level. Covered with bush
consisting of birch, cedar, and some rimu. Granite forma-
tion. Well watered. Access is by unformed roads from
Awaroa, Totaranui, and Wainui Inlets.

Nearly all rough broken hilly country, with a few small
flats along the River Wairoa. Covered with bush, chiefly
birch, with some matai and rimu. Formation, decomposed
slate; very liable to slips. Accessible by the Chrome Track
and by unformed road up the Wairoa River, the nearest
point being eight miles from the Brightwater Railway-
station.

the Baton River. Access by branch track from the Baton
River Road and by track up Ellis Creek.

Situated at the head-waters of the River Hope, at an alti-
tude varying from 1,000 ft. to 1,600 ft. above sea-level. Land
is of inferior quality, being nearly all low hills and gullies,
covered with birch forest. Formation, granite and clay
gravels. Accessible by the formed road to the Buller by way
of the Tadmor Valley. Distant about fifteen miles from the
Tadmor Railway-station.

Collingwood County.

underscrub. Limestone and slate formation. Access by
branch roads from the Collingood–Takaka Inland Road.
Distant eight miles from the Town of Collingwood and nine
miles from the Port of Waitapu.
