The remaining suburbs do not lie within borough boundaries, and particulars respecting them have not been obtained for the Vital Statistics.

Deaths occurring at hospitals, of persons not residents of the borough wherein the hospital is situated, have been allotted in each case to the borough where the disease was contracted, and not to that in which the death actually took place.

The total births in the above boroughs amounted to 573, against 608 in February—a decrease of 35. The deaths in March were 240, an increase of 29 on the number in February. Of the total deaths, males contributed 126, females 114. Eighty-eight of the deaths were of children under five years of age, being 36·66 per cent. of the whole number; 70 of these were under one year of age.

There were fifty-nine deaths of persons of 65 years and upwards: Five men, 66, 67, 74, 76 (two), and ten women, 66, 68, 71 (two), 74, 78 (two), 83 (two), 86, died at Auckland; nine men, 66, 68, 71, 74 (two), 78, 85, 90, 96, and five women, 66, 75, 78, 89, 98, at Wellington; ten men, 65 (four), 67, 68, 69, 71, 74, 78, and five women, 72, 73, 76, 78, 86, at Christchurch; and six men, 67, 69, 70, 76, 82, 100, and nine women, 65, 68, 70, 76, 78, 81, 83 (two), 90, at Dunedin.
