THE Partnership between the undersigned under the style or firm of “Rose Brothers,” General Merchants, Tirau, has been dissolved as from the 31st day of December, 1907. Francis Rose, jun., will continue the business under the same style of “Rose Brothers,” and will pay all liabilities of the late firm.

“THE COMPANIES ACT, 1903,” SECTION 266, SUBSECTION (3).

IT having been reported to me that “The North Island Mild Cure Bacon Company (Limited)” has ceased to carry on business, I hereby give notice that at the expiration of three months from this date the name of such company will, unless cause is shown to the contrary, be struck off the Register, and the company will be dissolved.

DISSOLUTION OF PARTNERSHIP.

THE Partnership existing between Eugen Langguth and Hugh Munro Mackintosh Clark, trading as “Langguth and Co.,” Auckland, expired on the 31st December, 1907, by effluxion of time. All liabilities of, and all debts due to, the firm will be paid and received by Eugen Langguth, who continues to carry on the business at Customs Street West, except the indent department in soft, fancy, and similar lines, which has been taken over by Mr. Hugh Munro Mackintosh Clark, on the 1st March, 1907, who carries on the business under the style of “Munro Clark and Co.,” at 16–18 Fort Street, he being the sole partner in same.

EASTBOURNE BOROUGH COUNCIL.

SPECIAL ORDER MAKING HEAVY-TRAFFIC BY-LAW.

NOTICE is hereby given that the following special order was passed at a special meeting of the Eastbourne Borough Council on 11th December, 1907, and confirmed at the said Council’s ordinary meeting on 11th January, 1908:—

The Council of the Borough of Eastbourne hereby makes (by special order) the following by-law, under and by virtue of “The Municipal Corporations Act, 1900,” “The Public Works Act, 1905,” and the various Acts amending the same respectively, and all other Acts and powers whatever enabling it in that behalf; such by-law to come into force on the 20th day of January, 1908:—

No person shall drive or conduct any cart, dray, wagon, or express on any street or public place unless the tires of the wheels thereof shall be of the breadth hereunder specified, viz.:—

If built with springs and carrying three-quarters of a ton or over but not more than 1½ tons to each pair of wheels (including the weight of the vehicle), not less than 2½ in.

If built without springs and carrying three-quarters of a ton or over but not more than 1½ tons to each pair of wheels (including the weight of the vehicle), not less than 3 in.

If built with springs and carrying over 1½ tons but not more than 2 tons to each pair of wheels (including the weight of the vehicle), not less than 3 in.

If built without springs and carrying over 1½ tons but not more than 2 tons to each pair of wheels (including the weight of the vehicle), not less than 3½ in.

If carrying over 2 tons to each pair of wheels (including the weight of the vehicle), not less than 4 in.

If carrying over 3 tons to each pair of wheels (including the weight of the vehicle), not less than 4½ in.

If carrying over 4 tons to each pair of wheels (including the weight of the vehicle), not less than 5 in.

The weight of any load shall be ascertained by actual weighing at some public or other authorised weighbridge, or by measurement according to the following scale:—

New Zealand timber, 41⅓ cubic feet or 500 superficial feet shall be deemed to weigh 1 ton.

Australian hardwood, 29⅛ cubic feet or 350 superficial feet shall be deemed to weigh 1 ton.

Broken stone or gravel, 1 cubic yard shall be deemed to weigh 1 ton 2 cwt. and 56 lb.

Coal, 1 cubic yard shall be deemed to weigh 11 cwt. and 48 lb.

Bricks, 300 shall be deemed to weigh 1 ton.

Flax (green), 25 bundles shall be deemed to weigh 1 ton.

Wool (undumped), 6 bales shall be deemed to weigh 1 ton.

It shall be lawful for any one acting under the authority of the Council, or for any police officer or constable, to stop any cart, dray, wagon, or express when on any such street or public place, and to examine and measure the width of the tires of the wheels, and to measure and compute the weight of the load on such cart, dray, wagon, or express on the scale herein specified, or otherwise; and every owner or driver or person in charge of such cart, dray, wagon, or express, after such measuring and examination shall have been lawfully required, refusing to permit such measuring or examination, or in any way hindering or obstructing the same, shall be guilty of an offence under this by-law.

LOST POLICY.

EVIDENCE having been supplied of the loss of Policy No. 1296633 in the books of the Equitable Life Assurance Society of the United States, on the life of Mrs. Louisa Adelaide Jennings, of Oamaru, I hereby give notice that it is the intention of this society to issue, after the expiration of one month from date, a certified copy-policy under section 28 of the Life Assurance Policies Act.

In the matter of “The Companies Act, 1903,” and of the Farmers’ Co-operative Supply Association of Auckland, New Zealand (Limited).

A GENERAL Meeting of the shareholders of the above-named company will be held on Friday, the 31st day of January, 1908, at the Auckland Agricultural Association’s Rooms, Queen Street, Auckland, at 2 p.m., at which the Liquidator will submit his account showing the manner in which the winding-up of the company has been conducted, and the Liquidator’s explanation of the same.

In the matter of “The Companies Act, 1903”; and in the matter of the Motueka Farmers’ Co-operative Company (Limited).

NOTICE is hereby given that a petition was, on the 3rd day of December, 1907, presented to the Supreme Court of New Zealand by the above-named company, praying for the confirmation by the Court of the alterations in the provisions of the memorandum of association of the company which are set out in the special resolution passed and confirmed at extraordinary general meetings of the company held respectively on the 20th day of September, 1907, and the 17th day of October, 1907, in the terms following:—

“That clause (b), paragraph 3, of the special resolution passed in lieu of the memorandum of association be repealed, and the following be substituted therefor:—

‘To conduct a retail business at the company’s stores for cash or on terms of credit at the discretion of the Board of Directors.’”

And notice is further given that such petition is directed to be heard before a Judge of the said Court, in Chambers, at the Supreme Court House, Wellington, on Tuesday, the 4th day of February, 1908, at 10.30 o’clock in the forenoon; and that any person interested in the said company, whether as a debenture-holder, creditor, or otherwise, desiring to be heard in opposition to the making of the order prayed for in the said petition should appear at the time of hearing in person or by counsel. A copy of the said petition may be obtained from Mr. Lockhart Dobbie Easton, of Motueka, the solicitor for the company, on payment of the regulated charge for the same.
