———

Claims.—(1.) In a separator having a hopper, and a movable distributor delivering thereto, arranging that the distributor shall serve to impart jarring movement to said hopper. (2.) In a separator of the class indicated, a movable distributor having a plate curved downwardly from its receiving portion, and curved upwardly to its peripheral or delivery portion. (3.) In a separator, a distributor, a hopper, and a connection between the same whereby rotation of the former will impart reciprocating jolting movement to the latter, and a cushioning element to permit jolting of the hopper and to normally maintain the hopper in position to permit the jolting through said connection. (4.) The separator-shaft 23, having attachments (allowing of jolting substantially as described) at its upper, intermediate, and lower parts. (5.) The separator member 44, having attachments to cause jolting, substantially as described. (6.) In a separator, toothed annuli, one fixed against rotation (but adapted to be vertically jolted to jolt one or more screens similarly), and the other rotatable and adapted to cause the jolting. (7.) In a separator, a shaft 23 in combination with a spring or yielding mounting as described. (8.) The combination of parts illustrated by Fig. 5, with or without screens. (9.) The combination of parts illustrated by Fig. 4, with or without screens. (10.) In a separator, the combination of parts illustrated by Fig. 2. (11.) No. 23713.—14th November, 1907.—PROFESSOR DR. DITTMAR FINKLER, of 10 Worthstrasse, Bonn-on-the-Rhine, Germany. A process for rendering the whole of the nutritive constituents of grain, pulse, and the like accessible to digestion.

———

Claims.—(1.) A process for rendering accessible to digestion all the nutritive constituents of grain, pulse, and other seeds, characterized by the fact that the nutritive materials are set free from the cell-membranes by which they are enclosed by subjecting the material to energetic mechanical disintegrating action, simultaneously with that of water, with chemical reagents which assist the albuminous materials to leave the cells, or to disintegration through the action of differences of temperature—e.g., freezing, or finally to friction in the dry state with the assistance of hard substances which assist the disintegration. (2.) A method of carrying out the process described in claim 1 by adding to the water, as chemical auxiliaries, sulphate or other salt of lime, common salt, acids, or alkalies. (3.) A method of carrying out the process described in claim 1 by rubbing up the dry material with brittle, sharp-edged substances, preferably soluble—e.g., rock-salt. (4.) A method of carrying out the process described in claim 1 in which substances for assisting the disintegration are employed as agglutinants which are in the dried state equally brittle—e.g., gluten, with which the material under treatment is mixed, dried, and ground.

(Specification, 14s. 3d.)

No. 23726.—16th November, 1907.—WILLIAM WIGGINS, of 77 Lambton Quay, Wellington, New Zealand, Saddler (assignee of Robert Andrew Wiggins, of 164 Hereford Street, Christchurch, New Zealand, and Charles Bristow, of 2 Macauley Street, Addington, Christchurch, New Zealand). Improvements in and relating to milking-machinery.

———

Claims.—(1.) Apparatus for the purpose indicated comprising, in combination, an air-pump, a receiver supplied with compressed air by the pump, a vacuum vessel from which the pump exhausts air, a controller connected to the receiver and the vacuum vessel, teat-cups connected to the cylinder, and a closed milk-pail connected to the vacuum-vessel, substantially as set forth. (2.) Apparatus for the purpose indicated comprising a teat-cup designed to receive the teat of a cow, said cup having a metal casing and a pouch, means whereby air under plusative pressure is conducted to annular chambers in the pouch for the purpose of causing the teat to be intermittently squeezed by the flexion of the pouch, and means whereby the pressure is brought first to bear on the upper part of the teat and then upon the lower part of the teat for the purpose of expressing the milk therefrom, and means whereby a vacuum is created in the pouch for the purpose of retaining the cup upon the teat, substantially as set forth.

[NOTE.—There are eleven other claims for various combinations of parts with those set out in claim 1.]

(Specification, 12s. 6d.; drawing, 4s.)
