the Operation of Section 4 of “ The Civil Service Act,
1908.”

ORDER IN COUNCIL.
At the Government Buildings, at Wellington, this seven-
teenth day of December, 1908.
Present :
The Right Honourable Sir J. G. Ward, K.C.M.G.,
PRESIDING IN COUNCIL.
WHEREAS by subsection one of section five of “ The
Civil Service Amendment Act, 1908 ” (hereinafter
termed “ the said Act ”), it is provided that if the Governor
is of opinion that any office is of such a nature that it ought
in the public interest to be exempted from the operation of
section four of “ The Civil Service Act, 1908 ” (hereinafter
termed “ the principal Act ”), he may by Order in Council
gazetted exempt that office therefrom accordingly :
And whereas the Governor is of opinion that the herein-
after mentioned offices in the Customs Department should
be exempted from the operation of section four of the
principal Act :
Now, therefore, His Excellency the Governor of the
Dominion of New Zealand, in pursuance and exercise of
the power and authority conferred upon him by the said
Act, and acting by and with the advice and consent of the
Executive Council of the said Dominion, doth hereby
exempt from the operation of section four of the principal
Act the offices in the Customs Department included in the
Schedule hereto.
