THE CLUTHA HACK RACING CLUB.
THE following regulations under the provisions of “The
Gaming and Lotteries Act Amendment Act, 1907,”
were made by the Clutha Hack Racing Club at a meeting
of the club held on the first day of February, one thousand
nine hundred and eight.
REGULATIONS.

  1. No bookmaker shall be admitted to any race meeting
    held by the Clutha Hack Racing Club on the racecourse
    used by the club at Balclutha, or shall be allowed to carry
    on his business of a bookmaker at any such meeting, without
    a written permit under the hand of the secretary of the
    club.
  2. The sum payable by any bookmaker holding such
    permit for the admission of himself and one clerk or agent
    to any such race meeting shall be fixed by the said club, but
    shall not exceed £3 per diem.
  3. No bookmaker shall employ at any such race meeting
    more than one clerk or agent.

    SCHOOL FOR DEAF-MUTES, SUMNER, NEAR
    CHRISTCHURCH.
    Under the control and supervision of the Education
    Department.
    Director: MR. J. E. STEVENS.
    FOR Deaf Children of sound intellect. The pupils are
    taught to use and understand ordinary speech. The
    full charge for board and education is £40 a year, but
    less is accepted from parents who cannot afford to pay
    this amount. In case of necessity admission is free.
    By the Education Act, the education of deaf children
    between the ages of 7 and 16 is made compulsory. A child
    is, as a rule, best fitted to begin the school course at about
    the age of 6, but advice should be obtained as soon as any
    sign of deafness is observed.
    The following classes of deaf children are admitted:
  4. Children born deaf, or who have lost their hearing
    before learning to speak.
  5. Children who can hear a little, but are too deaf
    to be taught in an ordinary school.
  6. Children who have lost their hearing after having
    learned to speak.
    Parents and other persons acquainted with such cases
    above the age of 4 are invited to communicate with the
