in connection with such loan, the whole of the loan to be repayable at the expiration of forty-one years from the raising of the loan, and the interest to be paid being at the rate of 3½ per centum per annum, and to pay out of the loan-moneys the cost of raising the loan and the first year’s interest on the loan; and that the number of valid votes recorded at the poll of the ratepayers of that portion of the County of Tauranga was as follows: For the proposal, 55 votes; against the proposal, 43 votes.

As the number of valid votes recorded in favour of the proposal is less than three-fifths of the total number of valid votes recorded at the poll, I, John Alexander Murray Davidson, Chairman, Tauranga County Council, do hereby declare the said proposal to be rejected.

THE following notice, received from the Mayor of the Borough of Mataura, is published in accordance with the provisions of “The Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1908.”

BOROUGH OF MATAURA.

In the matter of “The Municipal Corporations Act, 1908,” and “The Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1908.”

I, JOHN GALT, Mayor of the Borough of Mataura, do hereby give notice that a poll of the ratepayers of the Borough of Mataura was taken on Wednesday, the 2nd day of December, 1908, on a proposal to raise a special loan of £1,300 from the Government under Part II of “The Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1908,” for a period of thirty-two years, interest to be paid at the rate of 4 per centum per annum; and to make an annually recurring special rate of 2d. in the pound on the annual value of all rateable property in the said borough as security for the repayment with interest of such loan; and also to pay out of the loan the cost of raising the same and interest for the first year for the following undertakings—the acquisition of Section 5 and part Section 54, Block III, Tuturau Survey District, containing 58 acres and 5 poles (more or less), for the purpose of a sewage farm and sanitary works under “The Public Health Act, 1908,” and the erection of necessary buildings thereon, and the providing of suitable plant therefor; and that the number of votes recorded respectively for and against the proposal was as follows: For the proposal, 61; against the proposal, 14; informal, 2.

Now, I therefore declare the proposal carried.

Establishment of an Abattoir for the City of Auckland and Neighbouring Districts.—Notice No. 1254.

IT is hereby notified, in terms of paragraph (c) of section 16 of “The Slaughtering and Inspection Act, 1908,” that an abattoir has been established at Westfield, near Otahuhu, of which the Auckland City Council is the controlling authority, and that such abattoir has been established to be used in common for the districts under the jurisdiction of the Auckland City Council, and the Birkenhead, Devonport, Grey Lynn, Mount Eden, Newmarket, Parnell, and Onehunga Borough Councils, and the Arch Hill, Point Chevalier, Eden Terrace, Mount Albert, Mount Roskill, Epsom, Remuera, One-tree Hill, Otahuhu, and Mount Wellington Road Boards respectively.

Pennyroyal declared to be a Noxious Weed in the Moa Road District.—Notice No. 1256.

IT is hereby notified for public information that the Moa Road Board has, by special order, declared pennyroyal (Mentha pulegium) to be a noxious weed within the meaning of “The Noxious Weeds Act, 1908,” in the district under the jurisdiction of the Board.

Hawera Borough Council’s Abattoir made available for the Purposes of Part of Hawera County.—Notice No. 1255.

IN pursuance of section 15, paragraph (f), (i), of “The Slaughtering and Inspection Act, 1908,” it is hereby notified that the abattoir established by the Hawera Borough Council for the district comprising the Borough of Hawera has, by agreement between the said Borough Council and the Hawera County Council, been made available for the purposes of the district comprising the part of the Hawera County described in the Schedule hereto; and that the Hawera Borough Council is the controlling authority of the said abattoir.


SCHEDULE.

ALL that parcel of land within the County of Hawera bounded on the west by the Waihi Stream; on the north and north-east generally by the Glover Road from the Waihi Stream to the Waihi Road; thence northward along the Waihi Road to junction with Fantham Street, thence by Fantham Street to junction with Turuturu Road, thence along Turuturu Road to the Tawhiti Stream, thence by Tawhiti Stream to junction with Whareroa Road; on the east and south-east by the Whareroa Road and a direct line in extension of the Whareroa Road to the Tasman Sea; and on the south by the Tasman Sea.

Given under my hand, at Wellington, this fifteenth day of December, one thousand nine hundred and eight.

Papaokarewa or Kawhia M Block.—Withdrawing Caveat against Registration of Dealings and Issue of Orders.

In the matter of the land known as Papaokarewa or Kawhia M Block, situate in the Land District of Auckland.

WHEREAS by section 11 of “The Maori Land Claims Adjustment and Laws Amendment Act, 1904,” as amended by section 11 of “The Maori Land Claims Adjustment and Laws Amendment Act, 1906,” it is enacted that it shall be lawful for the Governor by Order in Council to appoint one or more Royal Commissioners to investigate, inter alia, the claims and allegations of certain Natives claiming to be interested in the said land, and that the said enactment shall operate as a caveat against the registration of any further dealings with the said land, or the issue of any orders still remaining in the custody of the Court, until Parliament has dealt with the recommendations of such Royal Commission or Commissions, or until the Minister by notice in the Gazette and Kahiti declares that the necessity for such caveat or non-issue of orders no longer exists either as to the whole or any portion of the said land: Now, therefore, I, James Carroll, the Native Minister, in pursuance of the premises, and in exercise of all powers and authorities enabling me in that behalf, do hereby declare that, in the case of the said land known as Papaokarewa or Kawhia M, the necessity for such caveat no longer exists, and that the said caveat against the registration of dealings and the issue of orders shall be and the same is hereby withdrawn.

NOTICE is hereby given, by direction of His Excellency the Governor of the Dominion of New Zealand, under the authority of section 93 of “The Public Works Act, 1908,” that the road described in the Schedule hereto was on the 14th day of July, 1908, duly taken and laid off through the land specified in the said Schedule, under the authority of the Governor of the said Dominion, by Warrant dated the 7th day of July, 1908.
