No. 23632.—23rd October, 1907.—ALEXANDER PARKER, of Dannevirke, New Zealand, Inventor. An improved machine for vending postage-stamps and the like.*
Extract from Specification.—The machine devised is constructed with a sliding carriage operated by a spring having a tendency to draw the carriage in one direction, on the same principle as prevails in a typewriting-machine. On the carriage is mounted a roller of such a length as to be capable of receiving the full width of the stamp-sheet, and of having such sheet rolled thereon. Mounted also on the carriage is a pair of feeding-rollers arranged on parallel axes with the stamp roller, and between which the sheet is fed. The carriage travels along the edge of a narrow table on to the surface of which the feeding-rollers will lead the free end of the stamp-sheet. Means are provided whereby each revolution of a spindle will cause the carriage to travel against the influence of its spring a distance equal to the length of a stamp, and whereby at the beginning of its travel the whole sheet may be fed through the feeding-rollers a distance equal to the width of the stamp, so that a length of the stamps will lie across the table. Means are also provided for cutting along the line of perforations joining the strip of stamps overlying the table with the main sheet a distance equal to the length of the stamp as such strip is fed along by each
