(Specification, 1s. 9d.; drawing, 1s.)

No. 23264.—5th August, 1907.—TOM BARWISE MURRAY,
of Wanganui, New Zealand, Bricklayer. An improvement
in fastening for scaffold-building.

Claim.—A bracket, having spikes in the sides of straps,

bolt-heads and top plate, to envelop an upright or scaffold-
pole and angle-brace. The above taken in conjunction
substantially describe, and is my invention for an improve-
ment in fastening for scaffold-building.
(Specification, 2s. 6d.; drawing, 1s.)

No. 23268.—7th August, 1907.—ISAAC HARRISON, of Ade-
laide Road South, Wellington, New Zealand, Condiment-
manufacturer. An improved method of and apparatus for
greasing tram-rail curves.

Claim.—An apparatus for the purpose indicated, compris-
ing, in combination, a cylinder with its lower end perforated,
a ball of suitable material fixed to the perforated end, and a
valve operated from the handle to release the oil, all operating
and constructed as specified and as illustrated in drawings.
(Specification, 1s.; drawing, 1s.)

No. 23274.—8th August, 1907.—FRANK COTTON, of
Hornsby, New South Wales, Australia, Engineer. An im-
proved process for heating, annealing, or tempering iron or
steel castings, plates, ingots, and the like.

Claim.—An improved process for heating, annealing, or
tempering iron and steel castings, plates, ingots, and the like,
consisting of subjecting the articles to be treated to a reducing-
flame obtained by passing dry steam mixed with air through

(Specification, 2s. 3d.; drawing, 1s.)

No. 23276.—6th August, 1907.—HENDRIK DOUWE PIETER
HUIZER, of No. 22 Anna van Saxenstraat, The Hague, Holland,
Engineer. Manufacture of a drinking-vessel made of ice, and
apparatus therefor.

Extract from Specification.—The ice drinking-vessel can only
last a short time, but quite long enough to enable the user to
consume its contents. The life of the vessel can be lengthened
not only by insulating it thermally by a paper or celluloid
case, which at the same time makes it more comfortable
to hold, but also by giving it a special form, and taking special
precautions in making it.
[NOTE.—The above extract from the specification is inserted in place
of the claims.]
(Specification, 13s. 6d.; drawings, 4s.)

No. 23284.—12th August, 1907.—WALTER HENRY DUNCAN,

stantially as specified and illustrated in the drawing. (2.) Ap-
paratus for the purpose indicated, consisting of an inner
cylindrical firebox, a concentric outer casing between which
and the firebox is an annular water-space, an annular chamber
to receive exhaust gases from the engine, means for conduct-
ing said gases through water in said annular space, and a
conical smoke-box communicating with a chimney, sub-
stantially as specified and illustrated. (3.) Apparatus for the
purpose indicated, in which the exhaust gases from an engine
are employed in connection with a gas flame or fire for the pur-
pose of heating water, substantially as specified and illus-
trated.
(Specification, 2s. 9d.; drawing, 1s.)

No. 23292.—10th August, 1907.—WILLIAM BEAMISH, of
Wellington, New Zealand, Inventor. Improved cigarette-

of Victoria Street, Ashfield, Sydney, New South Wales,
Australia, Consulting Engineer. Improvements in packing-
cases for fruit.

Extract from Specification.—The case is constructed with a
number of separate octagonal longitudinal compartments, and
is intended to rest on its side, consequently each fruit touches
only those on either side of it in the same compartment, and
without having to support any weight. Another feature in
its favour, not possessed by other existing cases, is that it is
self-grading, as each case is built to carry a certain size of
fruit.
[NOTE.—The above extract from the specification is inserted in place
of the claims.]
(Specification, 2s.; drawing, 1s.)

set in same. (2.) In a tubular or tubulous dropper substan-
tially as claimed in claim 1, the combination with such dropper
of two or more sets of flared apertures provided with semi-
circular shaped terminal wire-reception eyes or seatings in a slightly diagonal plane, the respective apertures eyes
in each pair of same being transposed or reversed in direction
relatively each to each, the disposition, direction, and plane
of the respective pairs of apertures and eyes throughout the
dropper relatively pair to pair, depending on the number
of such pairs therein, whether designed for two or more
strands of wire, as described and as illustrated.
(Specification, 3s. 9d.; drawing, 1s.)
