REGISTRAR-GENERAL’S Report on the Vital Statistics of the Principal Towns of New Zealand during the Month of August, 1907:—

  • The remaining suburbs do not lie within borough boundaries, and particulars respecting them have not been obtained for the Vital Statistics.
  • Populations of Wellington, Onslow, and Christchurch given according to alterations of boundaries since January.

Deaths occurring at hospitals, of persons not residents of the borough wherein the hospital is situated, have been allotted in each case to the borough where the disease was contracted, and not to that in which the death actually took place.

The total births in the above boroughs amounted to 600, against 602 in July—a decrease of 2. The deaths in August were 304, an increase of 15 on the number in July. Of the total deaths, males contributed 172, females 132. One hundred of the deaths were of children under five years of age, being 32·89 per cent. of the whole number; 74 of these were under one year of age.

There were ninety-one deaths of persons of 65 years and upwards: Twelve men, 66, 68, 70 (two), 74, 77, 78, 79, 80, 82, 83, 85, and twelve women, 65, 68, 69, 71, 72 (two), 73, 76, 78, 79, 82, 92, died at Auckland; thirteen men, 66, 67 (two), 68, 70 (three), 71, 79, 80, 82, 83, 86, and eight women, 66, 72 (two), 77, 79, 81, 83, 85, at Wellington; fourteen men, 66, 69, 70, 72 (two), 76 (two), 77, 78, 79, 83, 85, 87, 90, and seven women, 70 (two), 73, 74, 76, 80, 82, at Christchurch; and eighteen men, 65, 67, 71, 72, 73 (three), 74 (two), 76 (two), 77, 78 (two), 79, 80, 82 (two), and seven women, 65, 66, 73, 75, 76, 77, 80, at Dunedin.
