THE following special order, made by the Christchurch City Council, is published in accordance with the provisions of “The Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1901.”

CHRISTCHURCH CITY COUNCIL.
Special Order making Special Rate.
In pursuance and exercise of the powers vested in it in that behalf by “The Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1901,” the Christchurch City Council hereby resolves as follows: That, for the purpose of providing the interest and other charges on a loan of £10,000, authorised to be raised by the late Sydenham Borough Council, under “The Municipal Corporations Act, 1900,” for the following undertakings—

For purchasing land for the Sydenham Public Cemetery, erecting cottage for sexton, and improving the cemetery .. .. .. 1,100
For purchasing land, erecting fencing and buildings for municipal purposes, including municipal offices, fire-brigade station, stables, and morgue .. .. .. 5,500
Purchase and equipment of fire-engines and fire-alarms .. .. .. 1,000
Extending Fairfield Avenue, Dickens, Cadogan, Longfellow, and Wakefield Streets; widening Burke, Brougham, Campbell, Disraeli, and Hume Streets, and Hazeldean and Windmill Roads; closing Addison Street and altering the said streets and roads .. .. .. 2,010
Part cost of bridge over the River Heathcote .. 200
Contingencies in connection with the above-mentioned undertakings .. .. .. 190

£10,000
the said Christchurch City Council hereby makes and levies a special rate of 4⅜d. in the pound upon the rateable value of all rateable property comprised within the said Sydenham Ward of the said City of Christchurch, excepting thereout Rural Sections 21 and 49, as the boundaries of the said ward are set out in the Supplement of the New Zealand Gazette dated 1st April, 1903, page 884; and that such special rate shall be an annual-recurring rate during the currency of such loan, and be payable yearly on the 1st day of September in each and every year during the currency of such loan, being a period of fifteen years, or until the loan is fully paid off.
And that it be publicly notified that the foregoing resolution will be submitted to an ordinary meeting of the Christchurch City Council to be held in the Council Chamber, situate in Oxford Terrace, Christchurch, on Monday, the 12th day of August, 1907, at 7.30 o’clock p.m., for confirmation as a special order.
I hereby certify that the above resolution was duly passed at a special meeting of the Christchurch City Council held on the 15th day of July, 1907, and was duly confirmed at an ordinary meeting of the Council held on the 12th day of August, 1907.

Result of Poll for Proposed Loan.

THE following notice, received from the Mayor of the Borough of Mount Eden, is published in accordance with the provisions of “The Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1901.”

BOROUGH OF MOUNT EDEN.
“The Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1901,” and the Amendments thereof, and “The Local Elections Act, 1904.”
PROPOSAL of the Mount Eden Borough Council, to wit,—
- For the purpose of enabling the Mount Eden Borough Council to provide the necessary funds for—
(a.) The reconstruction and formation of the two main roads—namely, Mount Eden Road and Mount Roskill Road—to their junction with the Epsom and Mount Albert Road, in accordance with the levels adopted for the proposed tramways thereon; the metalling of the same to the full width; the formation, kerbing, channelling, and a-shing of the footpaths on both sides of such main roads; the formation to its full width of Belle Vue Road at a point opposite St. Barnabas’ Hall; the formation of Sherbourne Road from its junction with Belle Vue Road to the northern boundary-line of Allotment 48A abutting thereon; the formation of Bellwood Avenue to its full width between Mount Roskill Road and Marlborough Street; and the kerbing and channelling of the recently formed footpath in the Epsom and Mount Albert Road.
(b.) The acquisition of land that may be required for the widening of Mount Eden Road between its junctions with Symonds Street and Burleigh Street, and the acquisition of any land that may be required for the widening of View Road between Esplanade Road and Mount Eden Road.
(c.) The construction of drainage-works to provide for the drainage of the area in the borough known as the “Water Street” area, and the construction of drainage-works to provide for the drainage of Epsom and Mount Albert Road, and the properties abutting thereon.

The Mount Eden Borough Council proposes to borrow a sum not exceeding £13,000 at a rate of interest not exceeding 4½ per cent. per annum, the amount proposed to be borrowed for and applicable for the purpose of the above undertaking (a) being £11,700; of the above undertaking (b), £500; and of the above undertaking (c), £800.

The proposed security for the repayment of such loan shall be the revenues of the Borough of Mount Eden (other than special rates now levied as security for special water loans), and the Mount Eden Borough Council proposes to make such loan repayable in fifteen years.

The Mount Eden Borough Council proposes to pay out of the loan such costs, charges, and expenses as the Mount Eden Borough Council may determine to have been actually incurred in connection with such loan, but the Mount Eden Borough Council does not propose to pay out of the loan the interest thereon for the first year.
We hereby give notice that the number of valid votes recorded at the poll held on the 10th day of August, 1907, in respect of the above proposal was as follows: For the proposal, 166; against the proposal, 37.
And as the number of votes recorded for the proposal is a majority of the total votes recorded at the poll, we hereby declare the proposal to be carried.
