The remaining suburbs do not lie within borough boundaries, and particulars respecting them have not been obtained for the Vital Statistics.

† Populations of Wellington, Onslow, and Christchurch given according to alterations of boundaries since January.

Deaths occurring at hospitals, of persons not residents of the borough wherein the hospital is situated, have been allotted in each case to the borough where the disease was contracted, and not to that in which the death actually took place.

The total births in the above boroughs amounted to 602, against 538 in June—an increase of 64. The deaths in July were 289, an increase of 59 on the number in June. Of the total deaths, males contributed 149, females 140. One hundred and thirteen of the deaths were of children under five years of age, being 39·10 per cent. of the whole number; 87 of these were under one year of age.

There were sixty-eight deaths of persons of 65 years and upwards: Three men, 65, 75, 86, and eleven women, 65, 72 (two), 74 (three), 75, 80, 83, 84, 88, died at Auckland; five men, 71 (two), 72, 74, 77, and eight women, 71, 74, 75, 76 (two), 77, 83, 89, at Wellington; twelve men, 65 (two), 67, 68, 69, 72, 73, 75 (two), 79, 80, 82, and nine women, 66, 68, 69, 72, 73, 80, 83, 84, 89, at Christchurch; and ten men, 66 (two), 68 (two), 70, 73, 74 (three), 78, and ten women, 69 (two), 73, 74, 77, 79, 81 (two), 83, 88, at Dunedin.
