No. 22245.—22nd December, 1906.—Rice Owen Clark, of Hobsonville, Auckland, New Zealand, Pipe-manufacturer. An improved automatic-fastening grate for drains and the like, and flanges for the same to fit into.

Claims.—(1.) In the improved form of automatic-fastening grate and flanges specified, the grate having an upper convex surface with holes tapered inwards and downwards through it and lugs formed on it, one lug having a loosely fitting swing-bar attached thereto, in combination with the flange or trap having a vertical and circumferential grooves formed within it, for the purpose set forth, as described and illustrated. (2.) In the improved form of automatic-fastening grate and flanges covered by claim 1, the loosely swinging bar attached to one of lugs fitted to be operated in the manner and for the purpose set forth, as described and illustrated. (3.) In the improved form of automatic-fastening grate and flanges covered by claim 1, the flange or trap having a vertical groove and circumferential groove formed within said flanges or trap, for the purpose set forth, as described and illustrated.

No. 22257.—29th December, 1906.—Thomas Boswell Sutton, of Thames Street, Rongotea, New Zealand, Builder and Contractor. An improved butter-box.

Claims.—(1.) A box for packing butter, consisting of a flanged cover and bottom, flanged sides adapted to pass within the flanges of the cover and bottom, ends fitting within the flanges of the sides and bands surrounding the box, substantially as set forth. (2.) In a box constructed as described in claim 1, grooves in the cover and bottom and sides of the box, and bands surrounding the box and lying within the said grooves, substantially as set forth. (3.) The employment with a box constructed as described in claim 1 of bands provided at one end with pivoted loops, and at the other end with pivoted levers adapted to pass through the loops and provided with kinks, substantially as set forth. (4.) The employment with a box constructed as described in claim 1 of a packing-cradle, consisting of a bottom to which ends and sides are secured, gaps in the sides and bars uniting the upper part of the sides and ends, substantially as set forth. (5.) The combination and arrangement of parts comprising the improved butter-box and packing-cradle therefor, substantially as and for the purposes set forth.

Notice of Request to amend Specification.

A REQUEST for leave to amend the specification and drawings relating to the undermentioned application for Letters Patent has been received, and is open to public inspection at this office. Any person may at any time from one month from the date of this Gazette give me notice in writing of opposition to the amendments. Such notice must set forth the particular grounds of objection, and be in duplicate. A fee of 10s. is payable thereon.

No. 20239.—Ambrose Ridd, of Waipuku, New Zealand, Farmer. Improvements in pneumatic teat-cups for milking-machines. (Advertised in Supplement to New Zealand Gazette, No. 81, of the 20th September, 1906.)

The nature of the proposed amendments is as follows:— (1.) To insert the following paragraph after the word “designed,” line 29, page 2, of the specification: “The novel features of the invention consist in an improved formation of the air-plate surrounding the top of the teat-cup (and already in use) to provide for the free ingress of air referred to by constituting a defined air-chamber around the root of the teat, and also the provision of special means whereby the inflation of the inner lining of the cup will be obtained in the manner described.” (2.) To alter the word “mouthpiece,” line 14, page 3, to “inlet”; and to insert after the words “the mouthpiece c,” line 14, page 3, the following sentence: “The teat-cup is also provided with the usual rubber cap a1 to hold the air-plate in position.” (3.) To insert, after the words “end of the cup,” line 25, page 3, the following words—“between the mouthpiece and the cup”; the words “in this invention” after the word “which,” line 26, page 3; and the words “or bent downwards” after the word “curved,” line 26, page 3. (4.) To omit all the words from “annular chamber” down to “gripping on the cup,” lines 27, 28, 29, 30, and 31, page 3, and line 1, page 4, and to insert in place thereof the following words: “air-space beneath it in communication with the inlet d which passes through beneath the plate.” (5.) To omit the words “insure of its shape being retained,” line 3, page 4, and to insert instead the following words: “maintain its rigidity and insure its elevation above the top edge of the teat-cup.” (6.) To omit the whole of the paragraph beginning with the words “the air-inlet d” and ending with the words “encircled by the mouthpiece,” lines 4, 5, 6, and 7, page 4. (7.) To insert the words “as a mouthpiece” after the word “teat,” line 12, page 5. (8.) To omit the whole of claim I, lines 23 to 30, page 5, and to insert instead the follow-
