COOK COUNTY COUNCIL.
NOTICE is hereby given that this Council intends to construct a public work—viz., a new road at the Karaka Cliff—and to take for that purpose the lands described in the Schedule hereto.
The works to be undertaken are formation, metalling, and drains for surface waters.
Any person having an objection to the taking of this land or to the construction of the work referred to must state the objection in writing, and send the writing to the office of the Council on or before 12th August, 1907.

SCHOOL FOR DEAF-MUTES, SUMNER, NEAR CHRISTCHURCH.
Under the control and supervision of the Education Department.
Director: Mr. J. E. STEVENS.
FOR Deaf Children of sound intellect. The pupils are taught to use and understand ordinary speech. The full charge for board and education is £40 a year, but less is accepted from parents who cannot afford to pay this amount. In case of necessity admission is free.
By the Education Act, the education of deaf children between the ages of 7 and 16 is made compulsory. A child is, as a rule, best fitted to begin the school course at about the age of 6, but advice should be obtained as soon as any sign of deafness is observed.
The following classes of deaf children are admitted:

Children born deaf, or who have lost their hearing before learning to speak.

Children who can hear a little, but are too deaf to be taught in an ordinary school.

Children who have lost their hearing after having learned to speak.
