(8.) To specify in the First Schedule to the Bill the con-
tracts under which the said company has hitherto supplied
gas.
(9.) To make provision by the Second Schedule of the Bill
for what powers the company may exercise for the foregoing
purposes, and the manner of exercising the same, and the
conditions under which such powers are to be exercised, and
also for the purpose of controlling the company in the supply
of gas, and protecting its property, and facilitating the exer-
cise of its powers, and in particular,—
(a.) To enable the company, under the superintendence
of the local authority having the control or man-
agement thereof, to open and break up the soil
and pavement of the streets within the limits of
the district, and any drains or tunnels within or
under such streets, and to lay down and place
pipes, conduits, service-pipes, and other works,
and to repair, alter, or remove same, and to re-
move and use all earth and material in and under
such streets, and in such streets to erect pillars,
lamps, and other works, and do all other acts
which the company from time to time deems
necessary for supplying gas within the limits
aforesaid.
(b.) To authorise the company to enter into any contract
for lighting or supplying with gas any public or
private buildings, and for providing any person
with pipes, burners, meters, and lamps, and any
other appliances connected with the supply or
use of gas, and for the repair thereof, or for supply-
ing any person with any products incidental to
the manufacture or for which gas is applicable,
and with power to enter into any contract with
any local authority having the control of any of
the streets within the limits aforesaid for lighting
the same, or any of them, with gas, and providing
such authority with lamps, lamp-posts, burners,
pipes, and any other appliances connected with
the lighting or supplying with gas, and for the
repairs thereof.
(c.) To exonerate meters or fittings the property of the
company from distress for rent of the premises
where the same may be, and from liability to
be taken in execution under any process or pro-
ceedings of any Court of law or equity or in
bankruptcy of the person under whose possession
the same may be.
(d.) To enter buildings or places lighted with gas by the
company to inspect the fittings and works and
ascertain the quantity of gas consumed or sup-
plied.
(e.) To cut off the gas supplied from any premises in
respect whereof the rent for the gas is in arrear,
and to recover the rent from such person, with
the expense of cutting off and the cost of recover-
ing the rent by action.
(f.) In such cases to enter and remove and carry away
any pipe, meter, or fittings or other works of the
company upon giving forty-eight hours’ notice.
(g.) To prevent the fraudulent use of gas and to pro-
tect the company’s property, and to provide
against nuisances by the company’s operations.
The site of the said gasworks is in the Ward of Caversham,
in the City of Dunedin, and is part of Sections 9 and 10,
Block VI, Town District and lies between the Main South
Road and the Government railway-line, intersecting said
sections.
A copy of the said Bill has been deposited in the Magis-
trate’s Court at Dunedin, where it is open for public inspec-
tion.
Copies of the said Bill will be deposited at the office of the
Examiner of Standing Orders within ten days after the com-
mencement of the session.

SUBSCRIPTIONS.—The subscription is at the rate of
30s. per annum, PAYABLE IN ADVANCE. A less period
than three months cannot be subscribed for.
Single copies of the Gazette, 6d. each.
Advertisements are charged at the rate of 6d. per line for
the first insertion, and 3d. per line for the second and any
subsequent insertion.
Statements under the Mining Act are uniformly charged
23s.
All advertisements should be written on one side of the
paper, and signatures, &c., should be written in a legible
hand.
The number of insertions required must be written across
the face of the advertisement.
The New Zealand Gazette is published on Thursday evening
in each week, and notices for insertion must be received by
the Government Printer before 3 o’clock of the day pre-
ceding publication.
Communications should be addressed to the Government
Printer, Wellington, to whom post-office money-orders
should be made payable. Cheques should be crossed
“Public a/c,” and exchange added.
Postage or duty stamps cannot be received in payment
from any place at which postal notes or post-office orders
are issued.
Prepayment may be demanded in any case. In order to
prevent delay in publication a sufficient remittance should
accompany every advertisement. Any surplus will be re-
turned with receipted account.
BANKRUPTCY NOTICES.
THE public are informed that extracts from the New
Zealand Gazette, containing all Bankruptcy Notices
that appear in each issue, are published weekly, and will
be sent post-free to any address on payment of a sub-
scription of 10s. per annum. Single copies, 3d. each.

A SPECIAL Supplement to the New Zealand Gazette
is now published fortnightly, containing all notices
concerning patents and trade-marks required by law to
be gazetted; also, particulars of lapsed applications for
patents, expired letters patent, and other information
useful to inventors, manufacturers, and others. The
Supplement will be issued free to subscribers to the
Gazette, and to others on payment of a subscription of
ten shillings per annum, payable in advance to the
Government Printer.
