Notice to Mariners No. 25 of 1907.
PROVISION DEPOT ON THE THREE KINGS GREAT ISLAND.
Marine Department,
Wellington, N.Z., 18th April, 1907.
NOTICE is hereby given that a provision depot has been established on the Three Kings Great Island. It is situated on the narrow neck of the Great Island, and at the head of N.W. and S.E. bays. The house is painted white, and is plainly visible from the latter bay. A finger-post is erected on the ridge overlooking the two bays, and is visible from the anchorage in each bay. A notice is nailed up inside the house giving instructions where to find water, and also how to attract the attention of the lightkeepers at Cape Maria—viz., by making a fire on the hill to the west of the house—and that the lighthouse-keepers will be instructed to keep a constant lookout in that direction. Finger-posts will be erected when the vessel calls again at the group should the sea be smooth enough to permit landing at the other islands.

ERROR IN RELATIVE POSITION OF COAST-LINE BETWEEN NAPIER AND CAPE KIDNAPPERS.
Marine Department,
Wellington, N.Z., 18th April, 1907.
CAPTAIN McDONALD, of the s.s. “Waikare,” reports that from careful bearings taken from a position N.W. of Napier Breakwater the correct magnetic bearing from eastern side of breakwater to outer rock on Cape Kidnappers is S. 51½° E., and that the correct magnetic bearing by latest Admiralty chart allowing for the increased variation is S. 55½° E., a difference of 4°. Masters are therefore cautioned that when making Napier from Cape Kidnappers in thick weather it will be advisable to steer an outside course to the extent of 4°.
