Notice of Acceptance of Complete Specifications.

Patent Office,
Wellington, 17th April, 1907.

COMPLETE specifications relating to the undermen-
tioned applications for Letters Patent have been
accepted, and are open to public inspection at this office.
Any person may, at any time within two months from the
date of this Gazette, give me notice in writing of opposition
to the grant of any such patent. Such notice must set forth
the particular grounds of objection, and be in duplicate. A
fee of 10s. is payable thereon.

No. 20970.—7th April, 1906.—WILLIAM SAMUEL CLARKE,
of Steuart Street, Mount Eden, Auckland, New Zealand,
Plasterer. Improvements in fixing up plastering or other
laths.*


Claim.—Improvements in fixing up plastering or other
laths. The described improvements in the fixing-up of
plastering or other laths consists in fixing up with the aid
of gauges any convenient number of laths at one time, instead
of fixing them up one lath at a time as is now done.

No. 20993.—12th April, 1906.—GEORGE ROBSON, of 114A
Pitt Street, Sydney, New South Wales, Australia, Mining
Agent. An improved apparatus for lighting and extinguish-
ing from a distance street and other gaslights.


Claims.—(1.) A device for lighting and extinguishing
from a distance street and other gaslights, characterized
by an outer casing, a gas-chamber in communication with
gas-supply covered by a bell with mercury seal, said bell
being adapted to rise and fall by the variation of pressure
within the chamber, and having attached thereto a hanging
link which engages and oscillates a balanced beam carrying
a pair of small bells, which overlie the gas-outlets to the
burners so as to alternately control the supply of gas thereto,
substantially as described, and illustrated in the drawings.
(2.) A device for lighting and extinguishing from a distance
street and other gaslights, having an outer casing, a gas-
chamber with cover adapted to rise and fall, a pair of gas-
outlets with mercury seals, a pair of small bells suspended
from a balanced oscillating beam and overlying said mercury
seals, and a link attached to the gas-chamber cover for the
purpose of oscillating the beam. (3.) In a device for lighting
and extinguishing from a distance street and other gaslights,
a balanced oscillating beam carrying a pair of small bells
which are alternately immersed in the mercury seals surround-
ing the gas-outlets, and retained in the immersed position
by the pressure within the gas-chamber, for the purpose
and substantially as described, and illustrated in the draw-
ings.

No. 21243.—31st May, 1906.—ARTHUR INNES JONES, of
Cricklewood, Canterbury, New Zealand, Farmer. Improve-
ments in apparatus for treating flax.*


Claims.—(1.) Apparatus for the purpose indicated, con-
sisting of the parts constructed, arranged, combined, and
operating substantially as and for the purposes specified,
and as illustrated in the drawing. (2.) In apparatus of the
nature indicated, the employment of an endless belt carrying
gripper-jaws which automatically open to receive the hank
of flax close to grip and carry the same, and automatically
open to release it, substantially as and for the purposes
specified, and as illustrated in the drawing. (3.) In apparatus
of the nature indicated, a device for throwing in and out of
gear the clutch for actuating the belt, consisting of the pinion
upon the spring of the stripping-roller, the mutilated spur
wheel gearing therewith, the bell-crank lever actuated by the
stops upon the belt, and a weighted lever with its connecting-
parts which throws the clutch in and out of gear, substantially
as specified and illustrated. (4.) In apparatus for the purpose
indicated, means for setting in motion the various parts of
the apparatus, consisting in utilising the rise of the upper
stripping-roller when a blade of flax is passed between it and
the lower roller, substantially as specified and illustrated.

No. 21248.—1st June, 1906.—JOHN GALT, of Mataura,
New Zealand, Merchant. Improvements in sleeve-links.*


Claim.—In sleeve-links having a spring connection between
its members, the combination with the spring of a chain
passing along through it, and connected at its ends to the
respective members of the link, such chain being of such
a length as to lie loosely within the spring when it is con-
tracted, and to prevent distension of the spring beyond a
certain amount, substantially as specified.

No. 21261.—6th June, 1906.—CLEMENT LUCAS, of Wel-
ington, New Zealand, Labourer. Improvements in hangers
for scaffolding-brackets.*


Claim.—A hanger for scaffolding-brackets, having a stem
adapted to pass through a wall and provided with a cross-
head upon its inner end, in combination with a plate adapted
to bear against the face of the wall and formed with a slot
therein of such a size and shape as to permit of the cross-
head passing through it when held in one position, but to
engage with the edges of the slot when given a partial revo-
lution, substantially as specified.
